  • I''m going to be a completionist

A task left undone remains undone in two places - at the actual location of the task, and inside your head. Incomplete tasks in your head consume the energy of your attention as they gnaw at your conscience. They syphon off a little more of your personal power every time you delay.

No need to be a perfectionist, that's debilitating in an imperfect world, but it's good to be a 'completionist'. If you start it, finish it...or forget it. Do it - or dump it!

Can I opt for the dump it when related to the pile of filing that greeted me this morning? I hate paperwork!!!

      Tell me about it!

I strive to be a completionist, but it doesn't always work! However, this week we finished off our large release pen for the birds - job completed!

        DO IT
        DELAY IT
        DELEGATE IT
        DUMP IT

Can I dump the HUGE pile of ironing I've been ignoring for the past week then???

I tend to have 'hyperactive'days ( fortunately not too often!!) where I work in the house like a whirlwind, multitasking. Tis quite a stimulating feeling- esp as when it's all done I can go and potter in the garden

You have to remember which one though - or things fall on your foot when you open it!

Me too, my mum bought me a dish when I was about 20 called a 'round tuit'. I never did.

[We did loads of analysis on our teams in my last but one job and each time I came out as NOT a completer finisher. This was great, knowing that not only was I fighting against something I wasn't when I tried to get thing done, but that lots of others had the same problem. So, now I just don't worry about it. Then, I went out and recruited a completer finisher and delegated to her - it was great]

The only thing that is tidy about me are my cupboards!!!
I would rather stuff was left lying around than put away messily (I'd hate to think what that says about me??!!)

Inspiring words - especially to someone like me, definitely a procrastinator, but your post gave me a push to change. Here's what I decided:
Take one uncompleted job each day or week (see I can't even decide on that) and finish it.
The next day/week take another, and so on until I've become someone who finishes instead of someone who begins , goes along for a bit and tapers off.

Seriously, I'm going to give it a try - the buzz of finishing something (as experienced few times by me) is definitely worth the time given to the job.

When I used to have a job that included loads of paperwork and deadlines, it all got done not so at home the new patio, started due to weather unfinished, the front garden started not finished, in the house kitchen tiling started by my brother I will need to finish!! Three doors taken off when got new carpets need stripped repainted and about quarter of inch taken of bottom started not finished.
Does it bother me, No, will all get done eventually!!!

oh begger it, i was going to finish it, but i couldn't decide why i had started it in the first place, then i couldn't remember if it was urgent or not, then i didn't want to do it, or did i? so i put it aside for later, in a safe place, just in case it came in handy............ not seen it since.
