Default If money and/or space were no object...

... what gardening things would you buy or do?

Like most of us, I'm sure, my 'bigger' gardening ambitions are limited by cost and room to fit things in.

The two things I'd really like to do are:

have a proper orchard, with apples, pears, cherries, plums, quinces, mulberries, medlars, apricots, peaches... everything that will grow here, really! Between my garden and my lottie and with the benefit of dwarfing rootstocks, I hope to get some way towards this dream over the next few years!

and have a 'Villandry' style vegetable garden

Villandry Site Officiel

Not sure this one is very 'doable' but I may see if I could make a scaled down version! I went there on holiday as a teenager and it was absolutely stunning.

What would everyone else like to do?

I've always fancied myself with a large walled veg and flower garden, lined with espaliered fruit! With an orangery. And an orchard. And a staff of 6

A house and garden with a view of the surrounding landscape on the edge of a hamlet. But a garden that was warm enough to grow aubergines outdoors - so not the UK!

Yep ....all of the above!!!!

If I had acres and acres, I'd love to have a 'prehistoric garden' - magnolia, ferns , monkey puzzle trees etc and a fresh water stream for the dragonflies .

Wildlife animal hospital of course at the side of the mansion goes without saying!!

I'd definitely go with the walled garden, Flummery. Don't know about the staff, I'd be a terrible boss as I'd want to do everything myself or be checking all the time. Seriously though, I know it's impossible but my ideal would be a house in the countryside, with a walled garden, fruit trees trained as espaliers on the walls, plenty of room for vegetables and herbs, large greenhouse (heated), space for chickens and a play area for the grandchildren. Need a lottery win.

Well let me see, first give up work, get a large house in the countryside with acres and acres of land, a swimming pool, have my own garden centre and small farm.
Will let you know if I think of owt else need to keep this dream a live if & when lottery numbers ever come up

A large orchard would be superb, with either old breed pigs or sheep grazing in it, getting fat on windfalls.
A walled herb garden
Another ten acres to add to my existing 5.
Another three polytunnels
A custom built farm shop
A mains electricity supply
A mains water supply
One day, one day, just wait and see.........

Oh yeah - tractor and assorted implements to keep on top of things.

I think I would have to have a lake with an island in the middle. Atop this island would be a small wooden hut, inside this wooden hut would be a soundproofed music room kitted out with Bang & Olufsen stereo equipment. In the midst of all this music equipment would be me, alone.

I'm not really one for big ideas, I'm pretty happy with my lot to be honest!

More land please! We'd keep pigs - just a couple every year for us and friends. I'd extend our orchard (to include cherries, almonds and peaches)

A new greenhouse - ours is slowly rotting away and won't last more than a year we think

More chickens (cos we'd have more land to put them on!)

Petrol driven rotavator/tiller

Staff - just a couple of days a week....

For me - small vineyard in southern France with an orchard and vegetable plot. Somewhere near the atlantic coast but not Bordeaux. Perfect!

I'm rather happy with my house & size of the garden, would just like the time & ability to get it how i imagine it could be! At the moment its mainly all grass, we have put in a path, flower bed, fencing, veg patch, 3 apple trees and rhubarb in the past year.

Wouldn't mind some chickens...and a herb garden...and a greenhouse..and a pond...and a bigger veg patch...and more fruit...and a full time gardener to help be realise my vision!
