  • Ideas please for challenge list

With my imminent arrival at my 40th year (i..e tomorrow, well 11 hours and 40 mins currently!)

I was browsing the web last night and found online a 40 things to do before I'm 40 list. I decided it was a bit late for that so I'm drawing up a list of 50 things before 50. Any ideas to add? I currently have:

2 Read a book by an author from each letter of the alphabet
    3 Learn to speak Spanish
    4 Gain an accounting Qualification
    5 Go skinny dipping
6 Go to the last night of the Proms
7 Watch a play at the RSC in Stratford
    8 Visit Venice
9 Learn to ice a cake
10 Grow a cucumber and Pumpkin from seed
    11 Visit Japan
12 See the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
    13 See the Northern Lights
    14 Laugh every day
    15 Visit the Maldives
16 Learn to tie a bow tie
    17 Drink a Banana Dacquiri
    18 Watch a rugby match
    19 Run a 5k race with daughter
20 Write something and send it to publishers
21 Make an item of clothing
22 Learn to read bass clef
    23 Visit Rome
    24 Learn Calligraphy
25 Draw up the family tree for posterity
26 Go to a Highland Games
27 To play a 3 set tennis match
28 Spend a weekend in a Health Spa
    29 See a traditional Ballet
30 Go to a Wimbledon Tennis match
    31 See the Queen
32 See a view that takes my breath away and photograph it
    33 Design my own website
34 Buy a property in the sun
35 Milk a cow by hand
36 Read War and Peace by Tolstoy
37 Learn to draw, and have something framed
    38 Ride a horse along a beach
39 Post a short film on You Tube

Thanks all, any ideas gratefully received. Maybe I'll start a blog on how I achieve each one.

Read with interest as I reach the big 4-0 next year as well. Already done some of them and wasn't fussed about the rest of them as these things are really personal. Never been one to set myself goals (realistic enough to know I'd be upset when I didn't achieve) but would be inclined to put some more fun and silly ones in there, a lot of yours are pretty big things, a few of which involve quie a bit of travel (New York, Venice, Japan, Scotland etc) although you could read War and Peach while travelling.............. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that you'll be exhausted doing all this if you're not careful and not in a fit state to enjoy your party! Mind you, you have given yourself another 10 years so not all lost! What about some easy but nice ones ie do the shopping for an eldery neighbour or give up X hours to charity? That sort would make me feel good and it's the sort of thing that I always mean to do but never do, or at least not often enough.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

If you haven't already done it then you could tell all the people you love that you love them.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Yeah, a few 'fund-raising' ones might be worth adding (for your own favourite causes), and maybe some other 'things done for others' would fill in the list.
I've done 11½ of those listed (never had the nerve to send anything to a publisher)<g>

And if you have, you could tell them again, and more often!

Thanks, I didn't put those down as I already do them and so they wouldn't be new, but great ideas!

I have told the people I love that I love them frequently and a few even daily A few have been a bit shocked but at least I've told them....I'd hate them to wonder.

The 5k race I'd kinda thought of the Run for Life as a goal but didn't want to limit myself hence the more generic entry.

            Thanks again for helping.

I reckon you can easily do all those in ten years, if you want to

Sounds to me like you already do lots of 'good works', so I'd add a few more self indulgent things! Is there a posh restaurant you'd like to visit? A class you'd like to take (something like belly dancing or chocolate making - not a brain strain one!)? Far flung friends or family you'd like to visit? Get a custom made bra at Rigby & Peller?

                Have fun
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I would need the custom made bra before attempting a 500m run never mind 5k!

I have done a few of the things on your list and recommend riding a horse along a beach but it has to be at speed on a windy day Have done Statue of Liberty but not Ellis Island - you need to add a visit to the Empire State Building and Eiffel Tower and I highly recommend travelling on a cable car in San Francisco.

i've had "to do" lists for years - i cross bits off, add more on - think i'll make it a 50 before 50 plus another 60 before 60 plus another 70 before 70 etc etc

one thing on the list is a trip into space !

You have to take a trip in a hot air balloon.

Go on a cruise, even a short one.

have a champagne and strawberry anniversary.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

My list includes a 'ride in a Rolls Royce'. NOT one of these modern things that don't look remotely like the real thing, a 50s/60s type!
I missed out on that because mother-of-the-bride doesn't get to ride in the 'hired for the wedding' car. I felt thoroughly cheated!
