  • ICT task at interview eek!

I've got an interview for an finance office admin job today, and I'm really worried about the ICT task they are going to set. Silly maybe, but I have no idea what it could involve, except they use Office 2010 (I emailed to check what version).

I've taught this to students from year 7 to year 13, but it will be so embarrassing if they ask me to do something I've never covered. I do know how to use HELP and have been going through tasks I can think of on Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I can set up and use a database in Access, but I'm sure they won't be asking me to do that.

On the plus side, if I don't get the job I will at least have some idea of what these tasks may cover, and I can make sure I'm fully prepared if I'm ever asked to do one again.

The company is a social landlord who also run a local homeless shelter, one I used to fund raise for when I was a teacher. Not sure if this will be a positive mark, but you never know. To be honest I would rather be working with the people rather than just admin, but If I could get in, then I might be able to apply for other positions at a later date.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I can't see it been too difficult, if you can use a computer then you should be fine

You will probably be asked to knock up a spreadsheet or even asked some basics such as whats a mouse, keyboard etc.

Can't imagine it will be anything hugely complicated Ann, and at least you're familiar with navigating around the program and finding things. It'll just be the nerves trying to convince you that this is something to panic about Best of luck with it, I'll keep crossed fingers for you x

Good luck. Sounds like you'll be using Word and Excel (don't know Access). If you've been teaching to y13 this should stand you in good stead. My y3s often surprise me with what they can do so you're 10 years ahead of me!

It's probably just a competency programme and will be short. How would you perform a mail merge in word, or insert a new column in between F and G. That sort of thing. Practice on PowerPoint, Excel and Word. They never use Access to database nowadays anyhow. If you use these three programmes on a regular basis and have your ECDL then it will be a piece of p! I scored 100% on my ECDL because I'd used Office every weekday for years and trust me it wasn't hard. Just keep your cool and good luck
