Don't worry about it HeyWayne. Those that have not been initiated into the GYO club just don't understand us. I have been known to visit nearby allotment sites whilst on holiday and I can't resist slowing down, just a little, if we drive by any.

What's not to love about soil? Where would we be without it? Others need to learn to appreciate it as much you.

My boss has always been known as a tower crane spotter (it's how he used to find business), now I am known for allotment spotting.

Do you remember the 'Eye Spy' series of books? Eye Spy Cars, Eye Spy aeroplanes etc. How about the (you know where this is going don't you?) Eye Spy book of Allotment Gardens. It could have a sub-section for lottie sheds.

Actually, someone asked me the other day if I was the 'Chicken Lady in HR"....

We only work on a campus of 3000 staff, and I'm still recognisable cos of the chickens....

I'm afraid it gets worse; having worked in soil engineering for 14 years, I give running commentaries on soils when I am out with the OH; this extends to blacktop, sand, type 1 and 2 subbases, the differences between different types, and hold me back mable when anyone asks a soil based question on my course.....my next module is 'sites, soils and cultivation'.....

Woe betide anyone who disses clay in my presence; I can sometimes lose it completely.....

I went past a house where the garden was being dug out to lay a driveway a couple of weeks ago. I stopped and had a long conversation with the bloke tipping all the soil in a skip about what a waste of really good soil it was - even the subsoil looked half decent!

And yeah, I agree with whoever it was up there ^ that said more people should be interested in soil - we'd be foo-bar without it!
