  • I have a kitten!!! But my ovens broken :(

Sorry, just so excited!!! About the kitten obviously not the oven lol!

Got little Omega, a black & white moggie, 12 weeks old, on Monday. She's absolutely adorable, she's asleep on my shoulder at the moment

Having fun trying to get her used to the rabbits mind you, they do live outside but with the weather being so bad we have to bring them in for a little bit each day so they can have a run and Omega obviously thinks there play things But no injuries on either side yet!

But today when cooking tea there was an almighty bang, we changed the fuse under the stairs for the cooker (we still have old fashioned wire fuses unfortunately) and carried on - not realising that the oven wasn't actually heating anymore as the fan is still going Luckily the hobs still work and we have a microwave - but we're going to have to buy a new cooker which is £200+ coming from the new kitchen savings so will be even longer till we get a new kitchen - the current one is crap you have to kick the doors to get them to shut. Typical happening on the run up to Christmas!!!

But still I have beautiful kitty to cheer me up

I suggest you look into repairing your oven before buying a whole new cooker. If, as you say, everything else is working; I can't see the repair costing anywhere near £200.
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

i'd agree, but having had the same problem with mine, fan working, element blown, it will depend on the make and if the part is still available, then you have to add the cost of a fitter doing it, and as we know that can cost a fortune.

Congratulations on the new kitty. They're great fun. We have four cats and two Basset Hounds. They all get along very well.

Sorry to hear about the cooker. Here it's the microwave and dishwasher that are defunct. Being as trouble often seems to come in threes I'm tempted to break something cheap and not needed so as to try and avoid anything else expensive breaking.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

I nearly choked on a choccie chip when i saw the thread title.

Thought you were going to ask for alternative cooking methods

On the cooking point: We have a Belling range cooker and both ovens went on it at the same time. I rang them, even though it was out of warranty but they let me buy the extended warranty and came out to fix it for free, though it did take a couple of attempts to get it done. And next year the warranty price is price is halved (it was £150 this time), but the cost to repair would have been £120 parts, £80 call out fee and whatever labour otherwise.

Good service all round I thought, thumbs up to Belling.

Watch out for your curtains, she be scooting up to the top Missing our 3, 2 went to new homes last week (within 2 hours of advertising), and the 3rd darling went today. It was supposed to be the last litter, but I might just forget to book Mum and Dad into the vets (shh don't remind OH). I think he gets paranoid that we'll end up not selling them, and the cat population in our house will reach double figures
Sorry about your cooker, at least your hob works though, so stews, curries and chilli can be on the menu. Look for the silver lining, think of the saving on the fuel bill. If you want a joint, gammon or pot roasted brisket of beef will cook on the hob.
My microwave is a combination one, so I don't use my main cooker for doing a roast, I can get everything done using the convection oven. Being smaller and with the door fitting properly, it uses less electric.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
                Now a little Shrinking Violet.

That's what crossed our mind, we have no idea how old the cooker is, but have a feeling its pretty ancient. Plus the people before really didn't look after it at all, I had 2 spend nearly a full day cleaning it when we moved in as it was so gross. I've done my very best but it still isn't spotless which I wouldn't mind if it was my dirt lol

Also, the grill has never really worked, its about the strength of a lightbulb so it's no use either lol!

So I think we'll probably still go for a new cooker, so then we've got a warranty and also it will be nice and clean and mine lol Plus we can sell it then when we get the kitchen done and get some of the money back

nice one, i have to admit i don't usually bother on white goods, but.... comet have had to replace my dishwasher this year too, same reason, manufacturer no longer has the parts, so when i picked the new cooker yesterday, i took out another extended warranty on it, runs for ten years (extra 3 on the dishwasher so 4) its paid off twice this year, so for 80 quid i got 349 back in full after 5 years, worth it i'd say.
I quit even buying washing machines, they always go just after the warranty runs out, now i rent, top of the line, and upgradeable every 12 months.
