  • I can finally mow!!

I have never mown our grass before, as we used to have a ride-on mower that I couldn't use (too short to effectively reach the accelerator!)... however, that died a death last week

We couldn't afford to replace it with like-for-like (even 2nd hand), so instead we have gone with a self-propelled petrol mower (21inch cutting deck) which I can use...

It arrived last night, and I spent over 30mins mowing the lawn (as the grass is about 6 inches long!) - yay!!

Going to do some more tonight

Well, the underneath is still wet, but won't dry out until we've cut it down a bit... I just put it on the highest setting and chopped the top 4/5 inches off!

Not sure what there is to celebrate about being able to cut the grass - it's the one job I don't do in the garden, ever. Unfortuntely OH doesn't do it much either so am going to have to nag him this weekend to get to it as it's getting silly and very long. I've got all the borders to sort so it's fair enough and I'm not falling into the trap of doing that too by the arguement that "you like gardening", that's not gardening, it's just a necessary chore.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Well, technically it is Mr OWG's job to do the grass (and the hedges!), however, it hasn't been cut properly since last August, so I suspect it's more relief at having a working implement to do the job with!! Since I have the polytunnel, orchard, veg plot, chickens and ducks to look after, he can have the grass and hedges!!

I love mowing my meadow if only for the heaps of mulch and compost mix it gives me. Plus it does look lovely when it's freshly done..

We managed to cut the lawns yesterday and today. Only just dry enough to do it though!
Our lawnmower had gone in for servicing for over 3 weeks!!!!...one year we'll remember to take it in when no-one else is thinking about it!

We have a self propelled petrol mower and it basically takes itself for a walk!!

I find myself forgetting that I am in control of the propulsion and shouting things like, "Steady, steady!", and "Go on, get up there!" as I tackle slopes! God, what must the neighbours think?....

You're obviously enjoying the novelty OWG, it'll soon wear off It used to be Himself in charge of cutting the grass, but it's now fallen to my youngest son or the middle Golden Girl. All Himself now does in the garden is to open and close the drive gates to get the car out.
