Are Hunter wellies worth it?

    Are Hunter wellies worth it?

    I've been after some new wellies for a while, and I want a decent pair that'll last me for a bit unlike the cheapo New Look ones I usually get that seem to only last me a couple of months.

    The Hunter ones seem quite good, and I like that you can get them in all different colours! But they're a bit expensive - about £60 I've seen the cheapest.

    So my question is, if you have/had a pair, do you reckon they're worth the price tag? If not, any other recommendations?

      Went camping last summer and it was a bit wet. In the crowd of us where two teenage girls (16ish I think) to whom "the look" was obviously very important. They both had posh Hunter wellies and both got blisters, unlike the rest of us who wore either walking boots or, in one case, a cheapo pair. Not exactly a scientific survey but they're certainly not everything they claim and I still think wellies make your feet cold so soaks become even more important.

      Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

      Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

          I've got a pair of normal wellies and hunter liners. Tidy like.
          I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

            I purchased a pair of Royal Hunters (the ones with studded soles) plus of 20 years ago. Used them ever since and still going strong, well they were when I put them away for the summer.

            Like all wellies though do buy oversize to allow for a good pair of socks.

              I dont have Hunters, but I did splurge on a pair of Le Chameau about 3 years ago. Fabulous. Soft lining, my feet never get cold and they are actually comfortable to walk in.
              A bit more expensive than Hunters tho.

                Think I answered on the original thread Hey Wayne dug out for you. But my Hunters are still going strong, and I do wear them a lot due to horses.
                Two minuses are that the tread gets smooth enough to be a bit slippy long before they wear out, and they are the coldest wellies I've owned, definately need a size bigger for nice thermal socks.

                  I have a pair of town and country ones, they are just as good. My wife wears Hunters she got them from TK Maxx half price. My daughter and son have Joules wellies, bloody expensive if you ask me. My ones were only £10 from B&Q!

                      have to admit i'm looking into them as well as I have a pair of wellies I bought TWO WEEKS ago from B&Q that have already split on both boots... they are going back

                      Greenfingers seems to have various wellies on sale if you can handle a "discontinued" line

                      I did read the comments on the thread above regarding Dunlop wellies with interest... I did have some of these years ago and blowed if I know where they are now after 3 house moves- Darn it!

                        I am on my 2nd pair in 20 years, first pair the rubber started to break up where the boots crease - same thing happening on current pair! grrrr
                        also, only good if your calves are stick thin! even wide fitting ones are not great
                        Not great for walking in.

                        would not buy another pair - sorry

                            Dont know about Hunters but have some Dunlop that are very old are still going strong. But they make my feet cold even with thick socks. Bought some Chameau, very comfortable and soft and no cold feet even with out thick socks. The only draw back is that they tend to break in the legs around the ankle. So when they do I cut then down to shorties and they go on a lot longer. Expensive but well worth the money.

                              I live in croc shoes all summer, feet feel good in them. Ive just bought a pair of croc wellies. Still a bit pricey for me £30 or so but they are dead comfey. I can do school runs in them no probs, easy to get on and off, and with wellie liners as snug as a bug. Plus they have all important croc factor "comfort"! Glad I bought them. )
