  • How to unblock frozen pipes

Thought I'd put this up as I've had to google it, in case anyone else needs the info!

Turn the water off - cold at the stopcock, hot at the immersion
    Turn the frozen tap on
Heat with a hairdryer (plugged in via a RCD) starting at the taps and working your way back, about 1min per metre with a hairdryer is suggested!
Make sure someone watches the tap to shout when there is flow
Once flowing - Check for leaks along pipe
    Turn on water
    Check for leaks again
Pour a large glass of something rewarding (I'll wait till the 7pm Golden Hour comes but I have my eye on a glass of red!)

    Horrible job!

Bath Outlet is lead pipe (1935 original iron bath) and it often freezes in these sorts of temps. I just pour boiling water down the hand basin (21st century with plasic out pipe) and the heat and steam usually warms the old pipe and gets the water flowing agin.

Don't do as I did and give the plastic pipe a kick..........

PS The school of engineering I attended instructed thus:- "If all else fails.......hit it with a hammer"

Snadge, that sounds like agricultural engineering: If it moves, weld it; if it doesn't move belt it with a big hammer.
