  • How proud am I?

Had 10 for Christmas Dinner and was so proud of the ..... Parsnips! First I've managed to harvest since I started to grow my own veg and I couldn't believe how different they taste to the shop bought ones. Everyone commented on their tasty sweetness. It was a hard job digging them out of the frozen ground on Christmas Eve, but it has just been so special. Sorry to sound soppy, but I was thrilled to bits!!

    Hi FF
It's a good feeling innit? I so agree with you about the flavour.
It's been my first year with an allotment and when I looked at what was on the plates for Christmas dinner I felt proud (ok then, smug actually!). The winter salad leaves with the starter came from a planter in the greenhouse, all the veg - potatoes, parsnips, sprouts, broccolli, along with onions, parsley and sage in the stuffing came from the lotty and the raspberries in the trifle also (frozen but I hope that counts). I felt I'd really achieved something and with all the help, ideas and good advice on this site feel sure will do better next year. Can't wait to get started again.

My parsnips were a success too: I disguised them in a gratin, with dijon in the cream. FiL normally hates parsnips, but ate it all down and asked for more

I wouldn't have persevered with the parsnips without the help of the other grapes, particularly TS, so thank you all very much.
