  • How Many Re-cycle Wheelie Bins Do You Have??

I'd like to think I'm rather good at re-cycling, but with limited space I struggle with all the bins that are provided by my Council. We've been told in the last few days that were getting ANOTHER bin for our plastic. We already have one BIG green wheelie bin for Green waist & Thin cardboard, small brown wheelie bin for Glass & Aluminium & a small blue wheelie bin for Paper. This is on top of the normal everyday BIG gray Wheelie bin for house hold waist.

So as the question say's " How Many Re-cycle Wheelie Bins do You Have??".
Do you re-cycle? Do you re-cycle when you remember to? Do you think it's a waist of time? Do you re-cycle everything you can...other than the above?

We have 2 bins. One for general waste & one for cardboard, paper, cans, plastic. I refused the garden waste bin as I compost everything. I took a car load of bricks & wood to the local tip this morning. They are really pro-active @ recycling & have about 20-30 skips depending what is being thrown out.

      Wheelie bins = none
Black plastic sack goes out weekly
Clear plastic sack goes out weekly with paper, glass and cardboard - also plastic drinks bottles
green garden waste bag goes out fortnightly
Our council has a 40% recycling rate and is amongst the top ones in the country.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

4 bins at home for recycling..... and will be picking up 4 more for use as waterbuts ion the plot for free, Trafford Council are offerring any damaged ones (with bust wheels etc) to allotment holders for free, good way of recycling methinks!

Having recently moved, we're back down to a Brown wheelie for most things, Green for cardboard, glass and plastic(bottles only) and an optional wheelie we can pay for, for garden waste. But the borough we lived in previously were VERY comprehensive.
We had a Green Box for recycling cardboard, glass, cans, foil, clothes, shoes, batteries, tetra packs and motor oil, a Blue Bag for paper, phone books, etc, a White Bag for all types of plastic except cling film, a Green Bag for garden waste, a Dark Green Bin for food waste (smaller worktop bin also supplied) and then a black bin for anything that didn't fit in the above
It took a bit of getting used to initially, even though I've always recycled where I can, but have to admit I wish they did the same scheme here, as I feel so wasteful now
I always take used batteries to a recycling point, and out of date medicine to a pharmacy, as I hate the thought of it ending up in landfill.

We don't even have a wheelie bin for normal rubbish. We have to take ours up to the skip type bin further up the hamlet. Having said that though, I do have 2 big boxes, one for paper and one for plastic and aluminium and a bag for bottles and they are taken up to the pont vert (recycling area) when they start to overflow I also compost as much as possible. I try to be really good and recycle as much as I can but I know I could do more.

                We have...

1 large green wheelie for recycling some plastic, paper and cans (general recycling)

1 large black wheelie for household waste, which isnt alot as it generally it only holds plastic that the council wont recycle and nappies (pongs in the summer)

1 large green wheelie with yellow stripe that is for garden waste and vegetarian animal waste (we have to pay £25 a year for it)

And we now have a little black food waste bin which comes with a kitchen caddy. This we can put all food waste in. (this we have to pay for the corn starch bags that go in it)

We also have our own compost darleks in the garden, so we have a kitchen caddy for that too.

We try to recycle as much as possibly but I have to say I a fed up with the 4 containers that stand in my back porch for recycling purposes. (it is not a large pack porch!)

Oh and as we home compost, the only waste that goes in the council compost is the really smelly stuff! Which when you open it makes me heave every time

Oh and the chickens are taking over my garden!

We have 5 bins - general waste, recycling (pretty much everything that can be recycled thankfully), garden/green waste, kitchen waste x 2 (no idea why).

I compost a lot of my waste, anything else that can't be recycled goes to land fill unfortunately. Can't wait until things like plastic film sleeves can be recycled, I throw a lot of them away, which is terrible.

We have 3 from the council, a black residual waste one which is picked up every week (although we only put it out about once every 6 weeks and it's not full then), one for garden waste (use this for nasty weeds that I don't want on the compost heap) and one for mixed paper, card, tins, glass and plastic type 1 and 2. The garden and mixed ones are collected every two weeks. The mixed one is quite rubbish really as it leads to a poorer quality recyclet ie the paper isn't pure as it has shards of glass embedded into it so can't be used as a high quality product. Is a real shame but when I questioned the council about it they said they wanted to make it easier for people and there are regularly letters from idiots in the local paper saying that they refuse to sort anything as it's the council's job - makes me really annoyed as it's not exactly difficult although the space issue is the biggest problem. We also have compost bins at the lottie and at home, a wormery and bokashi bins. On top of this I actively avoid excessively packaged products and found that my rubbish levels went down considerably when I stopped using the supermarket and shopped in real shops, bought bulk etc.

It's even better to reduce your useage than recycle though, what products do you have them on, can't remember the last time I had one although I may be forgetting

We have a blue wheelie for glass and plastic, a blue box for paper and card and a big black wheelie for the rest. If we want to recycle garden waste (other than what I can get in my 2 daleks) we buy heavy duty green bags from the council and we phone them to collect free.

                          Black wheelie bin for rubbish
black box for paper, tins and glass (unbroken only)
Could have (at £30 a year) green wheelie bin for compostable stuff, but ours goes on our own compost heap.
In the supermarket carpark there are skips for cardboard and plastic (bottles), and some fabrics.
We also have a very comprehensive recycling depot with skips for just about everything! On the rare occasions (about once a year) that we have got drastic with the shrubs that take up too uch garden, we take a car-load of branches for their 'green waste' skip, then there is one for wood, but large items are often placed beside it so anyone who sees something they could use....
There are spaces for computer bits (towers, monitors, printers........) a big bin for batteries, separate ones for ferrous and other metals, an area for things like fridges, just about everything!

When we spend time in Spain, the recycling points are small and frequently emptied, there are usually 3, one for paper and card, one for glass, and one for containers, which seems to mean plastic bottles, tins, and those 'bricks' that so many drinks come in. Everything else either goes on the compost heap or in the fire, we have just about NO non-recyclable rubbish there!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Green wheelie bib for compost waste, cardboard etc
Black wheelie bin for everyday rubbish
Kitchen caddie for food waste that cant be recycled, I have my own bin for compost rubbish that can be.
Green box for glass and plastic milk bottles, coke bottles that sort of thing
Black box for tins etc, paper magazines, junk mail put in as well in plastic bag if raining
They also take clothing, batteries. Milk cartons can also be recycled ( box ones )
This is all collected on a fortnightly basis. One week recycle one week land fill.
                            Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
                            and ends with backache

I notice that somebody has voted for not recycling a they think it's a waste of time, would be interested if this means they think recycling in general is a waste of time or if they mean that they don't trust their council's scheme.
