  • How many lost posts?

    Nope, not the Royal Mail.

How many times to you type out a post and then someway through think to yourself "naaaah, can't be @rsed" or "I can't post that" or "I'll be shot" etc, etc.

How many do you think there are out there - and more's the point, where have they all gone?

No no - sat in traffic last night. I've been in the office now for 45 mins or so.

HW I almost deleted this response

I would say I delete between 20-25% of all the responses I type. Some just after I post them, most never get posted. for most of the reasons you mentioned.

1 - cannot be arrised to complete the post
2 - to close to the line/crossing the line of a family forum
        3 - don't want to upset people
4 - read through and just plain thought better not!

I think I'm about the same as RT, about 30% of my posts never make it. Mostly because I'm not sure if it will be taken the wrong way or people might think I'm a bit too pushy or when I'm half way through and realise that I don't know what I'm talking about.

I delete maybe 2 or 3 posts a week before sending out. But I'm naturally very careful about not upsetting peeps- cos everyone has a valid point, but sometimes they don't come across in the 'right' way- or I suddenly realise they have a very different sense of humour to me.
The lost posts I sometimes think about is my own history on the Vine- I can recall very useful advice from say a couple of years ago- and I can't find them in search and my own responses in that thread don't go back that far. I still don't quite understand why we can't access all of own own old posts.

            Talking of Royal Mail post....

I ordered some slipper insoles 8th Oct- and they were sent out 13th Oct...and arrived at my mothers house yesterday!!!!..11 weeks????

I don't often start typing before I have thought about what I want to say, so not many deleted posts, lots floating round in my head though. The only time I do is if I am really angry about something and start rattling off a reply before my brain kicks in. At that point I find its normally best to walk away from the pc

Sometimes if I see a glaring faux pas I will edit my post. Sometimes I decide not to make the comment and do not submit in which case I never know where they have gone. I was advised not to delete but if I do I give the reason.

I often hit delete instead of reply, what I want to say in my head just doesn't sound right once I see it on paper.

                    shall I reply or delete

Some posts I start but then can't be bothered to post.

Most of the advice stuff I still read and learn from rather than post to, but sometimes add my bit in. There are many questions asked about basic gardening from new grapes which I can answer quite well (often with a 'yes' or 'no', which can be a bit on the curt side, but I don't mean it to be!) but sometimes new grapes haven't got the knack of the search facility yet which means you can answer the same question over and over. Two Sheds searches, posts the link and answers the questions time after time - I admire her patience.

Given that the Vine can't have become more annoying, I think that I must be becoming less tolerant - about 9 out of 10 of my posts these days seem to start with the line 'oh, for goodness sake!' which I delete before posting, then walk away from the pc muttering. I'd hate to offend, so I'm happy to err on the side of caution & moderate myself!

It's mostly stuff in the chit chat threads that I should ignore for the sake of my blood pressure, but if I did that, I'd not find out what Mr Sheds has been up to, and I wouldn't miss that for the world!

PS this is my third go at posting on this thread!

And sometimes I compose a brilliant and thought provoking post, then hit delete by mistake

My rule of thumb about whether to post or not should maybe be not to submit the post if it requires more roll-eyes smileys than are allowed!

I have only ever deleted 1 thread & that was my fault for not doing a search first. I must say that I am also guilty of posting links to previous threads on the vine as I tend to get bored with repeats. Otherwise I just say it as I feel, I have no control over how grapes may perceive my posts.
