I wouldn't know - we don't have one in Cambridge. Or a Lidl. There's a small Aldi on the other side of the city from where I live, and that's about it. I suspect it's because the university owns most of the city centre and their rents are too high for budget stores

If I want to go to Wilko's I would have to get the OH to drive me to Ely. Perhaps we might pop over there at the weekend, since I was thinking of trying to get some free compost from the recycling depot in Chittering.

I saw them, and wanted some, but reluctantly left them on the shelf as even though they were only 99p per pack, I couldn't really justify the cost.

I've just boshed up six big raised beds from scratch, so I really aught to be up to making a few wooden plant labels.

        Nice though.

I bought two citrus trees from there last spring. (well, they were seedlings really), they cost £4 each. A bit of advice from the lovely people on the vine and 11 months later they are roughly the size that a local garden centre sells for £35, saving me a massive £62. Though to be honest I wouldn't really have bought them from the GC at that price.

There's one in Huntingdon where my siblings live, and I don't think Ely is really THAT far away. Just need to be a bit more disciplined with my finances then I may be able to have the occasional trip over there!!

The great Wilko's hasnt crossed the channel yet, much to my chagrin, but there is one where my daughter lives.
She, however, wont go into the shop. She simply refuses to go in there for me, when I see all the great offers that grapes talk about on here. Tells me its a "pikey" shop.
No matter how much I chastise her and urge her on my behalf, she simply refuses to go in. I love her dearly but there are times ......

Am ashamed to admit I'd never been in one before a friend recommended it last year when I said I wanted to start growing my own fruit and veg. Now I'm in there every time I go into town and I got really annoyed when the gardening section disappeared in the run up to Xmas.

ah but there is a plus point to the gardening stuff disappearing, i got 5 automatic watering systems for under a tenner (should be £6.99 each) and some garden arches for £1.25 (should be £4.99) and loads of seeds for about 5p a packet ......so keep an eye out, theres massive bargains to be had when they do their 50 or 75% off's at the end of the season .

I love Wilkos unfortunatly there is one in Orpington and Sutton. Both are next to the Pie and Mash shop.

Currently I am banned by Dr Orders...I don't know if its the Gardening or the Pies I am banned from....he he.

I love Wilkie's they do some good gardening stuff, I resent buying from Homebase because they are so overpriced, B&Q ain't that bad though.

I can't really see how it's a pikey shop just because they are cheaper than ripoff's like Boots and other big chain stores.
