  • how to crochet?

    Hi all,

When I was younger my Grandma taught me how to crochet blanket squares but for the life of me I cant remember how. Anyone got any guides or could tell me how to do it?

I learnt from a book. You really can. An article or book from the library will see you right.

I learned to crochet back in the late 60's early 70's from the old Patons wool company's booklets 1st and 2nd steps in crochet. They were wonderful.

Whilst I'm not knocking squares, I used to make dresses, jumpers, cardies, etc. It was so much easier than knitting as you only had one stitch to drop.

I generally can pick up most things I try but there are the odd few that I just cant pick up. I cant walk in a straight line! I can ride a bike but badly, and darent try driving!!

There are simply hundreds of videos on Youtube about learning how to crochet; everything from the basic stitches to really complex patterns. A concept that I've found online that I really enjoy, is using carrier bags and other unrecyclable plastic, and crocheting that into new things, such as bags, purses, etc.

I've made a few like that now, and it's really quite satisfying, too. Here's a picture of what I'm currently making. I wondered if anyone else had tried this too?
