  • How big is the universe?

Did anyone watch this the other night?

I found it remarkable, apparently you can get an app for your ipad (or other handheld device), which you can point up at the sky and it will show you all the stars that you cannot see. The camera that took the shots was 200 times more sensitive than our eyes, and shows the milky way in all its wonderful technicolor.

It did tax my mind to consider that in the 'known universe' that which 'we' are aware of, that there are over 192 billion other galaxies, it makes you wonder why are we trying to find life on Mars?
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Its hard enough trying to find someone to serve you in a shop, let alone life on Mars
You didn't expect to have a sensible discussion did you?

You are clearly trying to shop in Cardiff, VC. You want to try shopping in Swansea or Carmarthen, they actually want to serve you there.

Anyway back on topic, they are creating a 3d model of the known universe and extending it to include some of the unknown. Not quite sure how you map something you don't know about, I guess its a bit like dark matter, we know its there because we can't see it.

I don't know how you build a model of the universe as it will have to be an infinite model..........see what I mean?

There must be lots of life elsewhere......but theres only one veggie chicken! Sing along now.......

Behave yourself Flo, this is clearly not an opportunity for you to insert bite me or bazinga somewhere, it is obviously Mikey leading a serious discussion about size and does it matter. Oh no scratch that, it says dark matter. I wonder if this has anything to do with the doppler effect avatar he has abandoned in favour of his gnome?

“Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.”

Well, Newton, me old MoM it seems you are mistaken - for I have been cloned
So, I want to make it quite clear to you all, that if you want to waste your time Goggling "veggiechicken" anything related to this Forum is me, and all the other VCs are clones. I do not frequent the Reading Festival, or pretend to be meat, nor do I play with flameboy nor have I posted photos (that I did not dare to look at) anywhere but on here. I use alternative stupid names elsewhere!!!
Hope that is clear - but what's my theme song, Newton?

i would say size matters, depends how far your going to travel, what the cost will be,thats if they ever get a space craft that works, plus you will need more than 2 weeks anuall hols, thats were the dark matter comes in,no street light in space, and as for the gnome,i thought he was getting ready for christmas,
