Now if it was wasps, I'd say nuke them without hesitation as they sting for the hell of it but I don't think I've ever seen a hornet and certainly never been stung by one.

They are HUGE and look very mean, and I have been told their sting is the nastiest, but having said that, I dont know the answer, I just thought I would stick my 3p in!!

As long as the nest is not where it will get knocked or disturbed, you don't have to go too close to get out the car etc., and you're not going to continually get them coming inside the house by mistake, I would say leave it. In spite of sounding like a low flying Spitfire, hornets are not aggressive.

However, I believe their nest can smell quite bad because of the faeces that drip from it. That might be a consideration.

It may be worth contacting a local wildlife officer if you have one. Perhaps the nest could be removed and relocated?

well, one pest control visit later and they weren't hornets, but European Wasps - nasty devils apparently.

So, they are no more in my garage.
