  • Hey glasses wearers!

    Advice needed please.

I've got a gift voucher for Specsavers and I want to get some prescription sunglases with it. Should I pay extra for the polaroid lens, are they worth an extra £60?

The old dear has them react-alight ones which she says are pretty good and you dont even realise they have gone dark when looking from the inside out.

Had the reactive ones, not that keen on them, would rather have a plain pair & sunglasses tbh.

When I got new glasses most recently, I opted for 'convertibles' they are my regular reading glasses but have a magnet in the frame and polarised sunglasses that magnet on (not explaining very clearly sorry). They are easy to use while driving - if it gets bright the sunglasses clip on ever so easily and they are simple to remove when it goes dull again.

Here is a website that maybe describes them better... main

Can't do the clip-ons Specsavers don't sell them, but what do you think of the polarising lens? Are they better than regular sunglasses?

Not sure I would pay that much extra for them but the difference is quite striking.

I don't really have an answer but if it was me buying them, the question would be - how often do I plan on wearing them and is it worth 60 pounds extra for something I can only get the benefit from for a couple of months a year.

I think it's all down to preference in the end. I've had the reactor light ones but found them a pain when I was driving especially when you went in a tunnel they didn't react quick enough. So now I have my glasses and a nice pair of prescription sun glasses, only draw back is you have to carry 2 pair's of glasses.

Ta for the replies. I suppose really I should have asked how good polaroid lens are - its a big gift voucher and nothing else to spend it on. Perhaps 2 pairs of sunglasses w/o polaroid lens or one with is the choice...

I tried photochromic lenses, that go dark or light depending on the general brightness, but I didn't like them. It was like being in constant slightly dull weather all the time, and I didn't notice the changes around me. But they are available in different strengths; some from clear to medium, others from medium to very dark
I tried polaroid clip - ons, and thought they were very good. I would go for prescription polaroids if I could afford them

I have had photochromic ones for 15 years. Invaluable for driving: no need to stop and change frames.. Ideal for gardening .

I hate to carry unnecessary rubbish - two pairs of glasses = 1 too many.

Poloroids are good for fishing as you can see the fish in the water. With tuthers you can't!

I have reactor light ones from specsave and I wear them all the time, I find they are great. I have one pair with and one pair without, I hardly ever wear the ones without. I would recomend you have them.

I echo the Snadge completely, if you are anticipating starting fly fishing I would urge the polaroid ones, they really do let you see the fish.
