    Help with a shower, please

    We have an instant electric shower, and recently the temperature control knob has been getting stiffer so that it's now almost impossible to turn.
    I don't want to break it; would a squirt of WD40 be any good, or does it need anything more advanced?
    I've had a look around and I can't see any screws holding the cover down.
    Again, I don't want to break anything, is it OK to prise the cover off with a screwdriver? Or is there something else?

    I'm assuming that it's a sealed unit. The screw's will more than likely be on the back of the unit where it's mounted against the wall. I usually use a circuit board/electrical cleaner for this type of cleaning, however, I think you might get away with WD40. The problem that you've got is there's no way that you can get to the slider mechanism from the front. Try it, it might just be muck behind the knob that's causing your heartache and at least the shaft will also get a bit of lubrication.

    Either way, all the best. I would not recommend opening the unit as you cannot guarantee the seal once you have opened it. Water and electric are not a good combination!

        if its not to old try looking on the makers website for a parts drawing
        this will show you how to get into it .most have a screw (some have caps over them)at the bottom or are push fit clipped at the bottom.silicone grease is better on rubber seal than a penetrating oil on the shaft like wd

          Obviously I cant see it, but I would be very surprised if there wasnt a screw holding the cover on somewhere. As said, either at the bottom or the top, and quite often covered with silicone.
          If there is a screw somewhere, then its a very simple matter of taking off the front cover and seeing if there is anything obvious. If there isnt anything obvious, quite often on cheaper shower units, the seal isnt perfect, damp gets into the workings and corrodes the metal, which could be a possible cause.
          I know this is stating the obvious, but if you do find the screw, ensure the unit is turned off first before you take the cover off. Ideally, an electric shower should have its own circuit in the junction box, so disconnect from there.

            I agree with everything Bob just said. If you know the make but don't have the instruction book, googling usually finds the user manual.

              Hi
              you will also find cover screws under the dials on some models, I have not come across any that you can not take the cover off.
              any pics or make and model ?

                The shower is a Triton 2 Rapide, and there are indeed two screws on the cover, at the top and at the bottom. The cover is recessed to take the control knobs so they will have to come off as well. I'm assuming they are a push fit onto their respective shafts.
                I work shifts; my next day off is Tuesday, I plan on tackling it then, when I'll have more time and hopefully be a bit more awake. And yes, I will switch off the mains supply before working on it

                  Almost all shower control buttons/dials/knobs are a pushfit, so you should be ok.

                    if you need any bits stabiliser valve(temp) and the switch module(I II III) are obsolete on the
                    rapide 2 (the flat top box) you can still get them on the rapide 2 + (curved top box)
                    think the knob comes off with the front on the 2+

                      SUCCESS!
                      I took the cover off today, quite easy. There was no problem with the shower proper, just the knobs They are retained on the cover by plastic clips inside, and the whole affair was a bit mucky . So, a wash in warm water and a squirt of magic oil, and everythings working fine now
