    Help with shelves in garage please

    I want to put shelves in the garage for long term storage. The roof is angled to the house, so I have a high brick wall to fix them to.


    So the idiot level questions are; what brackets do I need and what is the cheapest/best for purpose wood to use?

    The brackets will depend on the size of your shelf as will the number to use, and the weight of the stuff you want to store on them...you don't want them sagging in the middle. See if you can scrounge some wood from skips or cut flooring boards to size.

    Track systems are good as you can adjust the height and spacing, but more expensive too.

      cheapest wood is what you fetch yourself from a place that cuts wood [ I can't remember what they're called....doh!] and will sell to you at more or less cost.
      Have a look in the yellow pages ...aha!! timber yard!! that's it!!

          yep i use them in my shed so much easier 4 mins work and its done

            Yeah, those are great. If the floor is level they will simply stand, ot you can fix then to the wall if preferred.
            Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

              As said it depends on what sort of weight your going to put on them Normally London pattern brackets in various sizes would do the job but if your thinking of heavy weights then move up to the 200kg brackets.

                Thanks for the ideas.

                I went to B&Q to price this and other stuff up - (ready for Wed 10% off) - lo and behold there was a pile of decking being sold off at £2.40 a length. That'll do (with some cross pieces to hold the lengths together IYSWIM) thought I. Asked Mr Assistant to load some onto a trolley for me while I double checked the length of the car. Good timing, cos when I got back all the rest of the pile had gone!!

                I'd thought that the basic brackets were the way to go, but didn't know if it would be better to make angled wooden supports. Am researching brackets on t'interweb.

                Two Sheds - the shelves on the wall are to be above head height, so I need a wooden/bracket solution.......... but while I was there, I saw this on Sale for £25, , 83.8w x 40.6d x 183h which is bigger than the argos one and has five shelves. So I persuaded another assistant to put one behind for me to collect (and pay for) on Wed. Bargain!

                I've also got a similar metal jobbie in the loft, so I'll get that down as well and I will be sooooooo organised.
