  • Help DIY peeps !

    I have a leaky radiator

Its a slow leak from what I can only discribe as "A thing that you drain the water out".

    Do I call a plumberhow much !

Or do I risk flooding the dining room by tightening the "square thingy"my self ????

    All advice welcome.

If you have a key, tighten the square thingy. Wipe the whole area with a dry cloth & check that's where it was coming from.

      Hi Liza
Just got Mr DDL to look at your photo. He reckons that that is the lowest point in your central heating system which is used to drain it.
He says it should be a simple enough job, perhaps some ptfe tape putting round the threads, if thats where its leaking from.
If it was me, I'd get a plumber or a handy man to come and check it out.

DON'T undo the square nut unless you have got hosepipe connected to the end & is outside. As Mr Dexter says, it is used for emptying your system.

Try to tighten it your self unless you are a super hero you won't damage it typically the key to tighten it will break long before you would damage the tape

......and I fixed the washing machine, wouldnt drain so took the back off, used some big grippy thing to get the springy metal clips off the squishy pipe.
Removed £1.10, dog hair, mashed up cork etc.
                    Re-assembled.

Had to go and change out of wet trousers, mop flooded kitchen floor.

Ok ollie, will get me tool box, you may just need a new thingy on the whatsit or pay your gas bill !
