Default Hello to all

Hi

This is my first post on anything like this. I started my vege growing properly last year, I hounded my fiance for a greenhouse which arrived 6 weeks after my birthday last year, I had already started off most seeds in a mini plastic greenhouse. I started rather late though, and by the time we'd finished the raised beds it was June, but still planted sweetcorn (which died with the frost), purple sprouting broccoli(still eating now), spinach, cabbages(don't like them so not picked yet, not sure when they're ready), carrots (eaten some, waiting to see how big the others get to,they're still growing) potatoes (got blight) and leeks(still growing).

So this year I've started early, after inspiration from all you already sowing seeds! Garlic is in the 2nd bed, as well as some smaller leeks from pots, hoping they grow bigger. In the greenhouse I've planted lots of seeds already and I'm still waiting for most to sprout. Lovely and warm in there now, had to replace 10 of the panes 3 weeks ago which were smashed by the winds, and we've erected some netting and trellising to aid with wind protection.

This years plan is to grow lots, eat lots, build a chicken house and keep hens for their eggs. I'm a veggie, so this should make me almost self sufficient food wise.

Welcome RachelC!!! Wow, an OH that bought you a greenhouse - I'm jealous!

Keep us posted on how you get on and never be afraid to ask a question on here - I've asked some really stupid ones and got fantastic answers!

thanks for the welcome guys,

Yes Everdream78, he bought me a greenhouse, but only after 6 months of nagging, comes in useful being female doesn't it!!

Just been to Lidl and bought some blackcurrents and blackberries, only 99p each! No roots on the blackberry though, just a stick with a sprout on the root end, oh well, I'll stick it in anyway and see what happens.

Welcome to the 'Vine Rachael. My cheap blackcurrants looked like that last year, but they sprouted ok & produced a whole TWO blackcurrants... They look a lot bigger this year so I've got my fingers crossed for at least a handful
Good luck, & hope to see you around the boards.
