My chemo is giving me really bad heartburn. Do any of you grapes know of a natural wonder cure? There is a limit to the amount of Rennies a girl can swallow

Patchninja I didnt know you were having Chemo, no idea about the heartburn, but hugs to you for what you are going through.

Oh dear- that doesn't sound very nice
I have a friend on chemo over here- I'll e-mail her and ask if she has this problem and if she's been recomended anything.

(I would have thought asking your consultant/nurse/pharmacist????...our pharmacist is always recommending herbal cures)

They should give you something like omeprazole or lansoprazole to help Patchninja - it neutralises the excess acid - take with water every morning- it also helps you to digest your food better and optimises nutrition, vital with chemo.

Isn't ginger supposed to be good for heartburn/indigestion? I've also heard of white vinegar, mustard and natural yoghurt. Hope you find something to help you.

Gaviscon is great for heartburn (the liquid rather than the tablets) and kicks in instanyly.
By the way, sorry to hear you are having chemo and hope you will be well again soon.

Wishing you al the best Patch, Sodium Bicarb (Baking Soda), is alkaline & neutralises acid in the stomach. I always have a tub handy. May be worth checking though if you are undergoing treatment.

As BM said, it is best to check with your health care people before you take anything with chemo. My friend had some stuff prescribed that really helped when she had hers, I can't remember the name though, sorry. All the best hon.

some kind of fizzy drink with a teaspoon of bicarb in it. Drink as soon as it fizzes madly.

I had very bad heartburn in both of my pregnancies - I got through at least one packet of chewy spearmint Rennie every day. I hated the chalky ones and any liquid things, but these are yummy - like spearminty Opal Fruits.

I actually still have the odd one, even without heartburn...

All the best from me too. x

My old boss in the pub I worked in, swore by Peppermint liqueur/cordial. I tried it once, and it worked very quickly. Hope you make a speedy recovery. Best wishes.

The only thing that works for me for heartburn is Bisodol tablets (available from Tesco and Wilkinsons and some chemist shops).

As others have said, you should talk it over with the doc and check that it doesn't indicate something else.

                        ((((hugs)))) for you hunny

Patchninja, whilst I prefer Remegels to Rennies, shouldn't you really be asking your consultant?
