  • Happy Friday

    Morning

I seem to have woken in a light mood, which is excellent - I attribute this to the fact that yesterday I did a self-portrait*. Not much in that you might say, but as I'm studying a Design with Plants course and I am continually held back by my lack of ability to draw it felt like a move forward.

I'm working through a fab book 'Drawing on the Right Side of the brain'.

Today I have to draw a person from memory and then my hand - didn't we do that at school - clearly I didn't

Oh yes, and the car......I have a Mini, it is 'just' out of warranty it needs £1000 worth of repair work (cam chain or some such) I fainted - Mini have agreed to pay £750 of the fee as a 'goodwill' payment. I love them, I want their babies.

*my s-p makes me look like someone you would keep away from children and horses

    Good luck with the drawing.
cant comment on the s-p but the fact you want 'their babies' would be a worry or should be

my car (my baby) needs new exhaust its just had a new turbo double

Happy Friday to you too Piskie and happy to see you too. You've been conspicuous by your absence, the drawing must be keeping you very busy.

        Morning!!!

...That's a fab book Piskie- my brother spent a weeks hols with us a couple of years back and 'forced' me to sketch with him for several hours daily.
He even brought out the paper, pencils, framework ( you'll know what I'm on about) so I had absolutely no excuse!

My reluctance was cos I can't draw for toffee- but I have to say that by the end of the week I was quite shocked at what I was able to draw! ( still vv amateurish but at least not total rubbish).
( I even achieved a 'raised eyebrow' from my OH- which is praise indeed!!!!)
I esp liked the idea that you draw the gaps.

Sort of wish I'd got the time to work my way through the whole book. Maybe one day eh??

*...and my s-p looked like a death mask

Darling Snowdrop made me the frameworks bless him

I'm almost up to the part where I have to draw a chap upside down, which is to force the left-hand side of my brain to go 'oh heck, I'm off' hehehe

How long does this poor chap have to hang upside down?

I feel a little guilty for why I'm happy...promised the kiddies we'd go to the nasty, smelly, windowless play place for the day today...after the lovely sunshine we had yesterday I was dreading having to walk into the place and wave goodbye to a beautiful day...it's grey and miserable out there so I don't feel I'll be missing out now.

              Hi Pisk (*waves)

I can't draw at all - I get my (lack of) ability from my mum, who tried and failed to draw a banana in a letter to one of the grandchildren a few years ago. My big sister, however, who inherited more from my dad is a commissioned artist.

Upside-down man is brill- that's what shocked me the most- I almost fell over ( had I not already been sitting down) when I turned round my page.

Oh- and anyone interested...this is the book ( well- there may be a newer edition now???)

Can you not just draw the man the right way up and then turn the paper upside down......

Good plan stella - but the idea is to make you draw what you see (right brain) rather than what logic tells you you see (left brain) - if that makes sense...not sure it does to me but then I'm a learner drawer
