  • handwashing in schools, survey

If you're bored, and in a bid to decrease sickness etc. (it's nearly norovirus time again)

    Global Handwashing Day UK Survey

The lady is on radio 4 now talking about it, and says that men still don't wash their hands after using the loo, and northern men have the most poo-germs on their hands
People also still don't realise that coughs and colds are spread mostly via the hands (touching surfaces that have been sneezed on, then touching your mouth/nose/eyes)

On the subject of contamination I am appalled that they have magazines etc. in waiting rooms in hospitals. I have in the past picked one up and realised that when I needed to turn a page I licked my fingers. I imagine that everyone else does this so in a hospita,l of all places, why are they allowed?

Our local Hospitals have Antibacterial hand-wash dispensers absolutely everywhere - but I noticed only about thirty percent of people using them!

            What, finger lickers?

Seriously, there's nothing dangerous about magazines (or anything else) so long as you wash your hands before eating, and refrain from touching your face (germs get in via the mouth/nose/eyes)

I see a lot of people in work(bearing in mind, I work for the NHS) wee without washing their hands. It really annoys me, because i have to then touch the same handle to pull the doors open (why can't they open outwards with a window in the outer one?!)

I've seen the same person come out after a number 2, twice not wash his hands and just leave. Dirty baskets, these are grown men too. I dread to think what their house is like

I work in the NHS too Chris and it amazes me how many nursing staff don't wash their hands after using the loo.

I saw a chef on holiday in Portugal NOT wash his hands after strolling out of the unisex loo. We ate somewhere else.....

When my son started school at 3 years old the teacher called me in to have a word about a little problem,I went in and was told the problem...my son was washing his hands when he didn't need to! apparently he only needed to wash his hands before they had their milk and apple! I asked when was he washing his hands (thinking he had been messing around with the taps)....wait for it.... everytime he'd been to the toilet and when they were dirty from playing with the sand or clay!

We have sanitiser in our computer rooms, and the kids love using it of course. I do remember reading that the average school keyboard has more germs than a loo seat, which doesn't surprise me as loo seats tend to get cleaned more often I use that reason when telling 6th formers they can't eat in my room!
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

If it is JUST a wee, it shouldn't matter. Urine is not a germ-source (although the garment-adjustment involved might be a complication) and in any case one may not have 'wiped' anything. When there is 'more to it' that DOES matter.
