  • GWL - Not Impressed this year

    Hi All,

Went to Garderns World live on Sunday,I have been going for about 3 years but never on the last day. The day was lovely and I liked the end when they had the plant sale, got a few bargins but......

I felt the food section was very small and the gardening accessory area was also small. Also thought there was less gardens to look at and less stalls outside.

makes me wonder if I will go back next year

Two good things out of the show, meet Carole and Toby, both very nice .

Any one else felt like that or is it just me being fussy

I posted the other day after I went on Wednesday that I felt that there were a lot of irrelevant stalls eg hair straighteners, beds, sofas etc. Nothing to do with either gardening or food and taking up space which would have been better used by somebody more useful.

Also, a lot of rubbishy quality pretty stuff eg flowering watering cans, pink secateurs etc and not much good quality proper gardening equipment - was hoping for some bargains but few to be had.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

      Gwl 2009

I know how you feel, there was a surprising amount of Tat at this years show, crap for the garden, crap for the house, crap for the kitchen etc....

Some good stuff also (for me), I had a good natter with nice blond young man from RSPB, not sure what he was saying, but he had lovley eyes.

Picked up some nice plants for my attract the bees bit in my garden. Bought yet another Hosta.!

Saw some Celebs in the distance, then avoided them cos people just Coo over them a bit too much. Got some free seeds, bought some 'interesting' sausages. And took heaps of Photos.

It was not as good overall as previous years, but i have seen the show worse. Did not spend as much as previous years as well, but will go back next year as its my annual day out with me.!

Managed to resist buying one of the hostas although they did look very nice - just get slugged to death in my garden although I suppose that keeps them off any veg!

Your sausage comment reminds me that about half the food stalls seemed to be sausage based, nice sausages but a bit more variety would be good!

I was after some good gardening shoes, I have wellys but wanted some smaller boots for warmer weather (like now) but I could only see one stand selling shoes, unless I missed others, no idea.

There was a stall selling very expensive flowering clogs but don't remember any others.

I went on Sunday too, it was the first time I've been and I wasn't overly impressed.
I had hoped for more veg stands in the hall, but there were only about 3 main ones, but I did buy lots and lots of seeds, and one tromboncino plant, got a good deal on some Seeds of Italy seeds, had a chat with him, very informative. Also got a book from the book stall, the Jekka Mcvicar herb book, bargain at 7 quid when Amazon are selling for 11.
                Yeah, how many sausages?!
I admit I bought a pair of the expensive slipon veg shoes, mostly through my friend having a go at me and I'll blame her
Had a chat with the woman on the Save a Cow stand, very ingenious solution to dirty hands after gardening, and am now having a think about a keyhole herb and/or flower garden.
It was defiitely worth it, but I thought there'd be more.
