  • Grade 2 listed allotments.

I have lived in Nottm all my life and knew there were allotments in the St Anns area but until yesterday when I visited with a friend I had no idea how big they were or how full of history. St Anns is a deprived area notorious for crime but this gem sits right in the middle of the estate on the edge of the city, 75 acres 670 plots well worth a look.

That looks really interesting Colin. We don't always know what's on our doorstep do we?

      Florence,

No we certainly don't I have lived in Nottm for 65 years. 50 years ago I worked the St Ann's area for East Midlands Gas Board we travelled by bus and foot and so knew all the short cuts on `the district`.

I well remember using the allotment pathways, but I did not realise how extensive the place was. Even then it was very run down, now thanks to the efforts of a few it has sprang back into life. The orchard with its heritage varieties is a gem all on its own.

Are we on about Hungerhill Gardens here?
I have some large scale maps(1"to 41.5 ft) of these allotments dated 1881.
The maps even show the sheds & greenhouses.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

BW Hungerhill is just one part of the complex bet they would be interested to see the maps though.

If someone I could PM me I could arrange a viewing
There are 5 maps as far as I can work out but there is at least 1 map of the area I don't have.

PS I am Nottingham born but left there in 1967 age 18.
