  • Gonna be a Nan!!!!!

My lovely step daughter announced a couple of weeks ago that she's expecting and baby due end November, so we're going to be grandparents Well, we've just about got used to the idea and my OH has come out of the shocked state he went into and stopped staring mindlessly out of windows and he's now getting used to the idea of being a Granddad at 43 (mum to be is only 20)
I'm a bit older than hubby but will still be a Nan before 50 ( gosh that looks horrible written down, the Nan and 50 bit and talking about me!!!!)
Anyone else youngish grandparents? What's it like?

    Firstly, congratulations to you both

Secondly, yep - takes some getting used to using 'nan' '50' 'me' in the same sentence

Aaaah, it's still exciting whatever your age, I'm guessing. But, even more exciting for me would be the prospect of having all the scrummy, yummy times with them and being able to hand them back when the going gets tough - bliss!!

Trust you to find that Nicos! Congratulations lettuce, it will change your life. Grandchildren are a wonderful gift. I have 8 grandchildren, 6 of those before I was 50. My eldest granddaughter is 13 and she thinks it's cool that she has "a nanny who can text"!!!

Wow - how lovely for you! What a good thing - young enough to enjoy it and old enough to know what fun it is! I'm jealous!

Thanks all. Don't picture myself quite like that Nicos,(so I'm the demure one on the left ) but am now looking forward to the new addition. I am going to be that Nan florence who can text and google and do all sorts of cool stuff and then hand him/her back !!!!

Lettuce that is fab. My parents were young grandparents (mum was 37 when big sis had her eldest) and my Dad was 45 when Pickle arrived. Don't think they would have had things any other way

                        Congrats and enjoy xxx

I have 2 grandsons and I'm 51. I love being able to run around with them. I had "old" parents. My Dad was 40 when I was born and I hated it. All my friends' parents were younger and did more with them! I had my girlie when I was 21.
                          So CONGRATS! wonderful news.

You sound like me PN - my parents were 44 and 45. They were more like grandparents, specially when I was in my teens. I had my first at 19.

                              I have 3 grandkids, oldest being almost 6, and I'm 47.
Its fantastic. Its brilliant, its amazing, its as many superlatives as you can think of.

I love the fact that I can go out with the littl'uns and run about like a loon with them, cos I'm still young enough.
I really really appreciate the fact that I'm as young as I am (for a granddad) and yet my grandkids are almost the same generation as I am.

You will love it and love it some more, I can promise you.

Many congrats in advance, it didnt take me one second to get used to hearing me being described as Granddad France, and it still makes me a little bit tingly around the extremities of my eyes when I phone my daughter and I hear one of them asking to speak to Granddad.
