  • "going it alone"

After a good think, I have decided to go it alone again! I have been a contractor all my life, Landscaping hard and soft, also many years in the construction industry. I have decided to go back to contracting but on my own. Doing what I love, Gardening, Tree work, Hedge laying and Maintenance. I already have to maintenance jobs lined up that are on going and hopefully will have a few more next week after some meetings.
Just thought I would share it with everyone

Big tip. Don't undercharge......if you are good....and I am sure you are......let your clients pay for what they are getting. They will be pleased to.......ifvtheyvare not then they are not the clients for you.

Now the only one who can sack you is yourself so you'd better work hard and behave. Hope it all works out for you.

And don't forget Steve...............you're on strike on 30th Nov!

I'll second the 'Don't undercharge' statement. When I was self employed I undercharged and naturally had a full order book. When I had decided to quit, just out of daftness when I was working out quotes I got the figure I would have charged and then doubled it!
Still got the jobs, but by then I had made my mind up to pack in.

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Started out on my own over 20 years ago. Its the best and worst thing you will ever do just make sure the best bits happen more often than the worst bits and its great.

As others have said don't under charge a mans worthy of his hire and those who don't want to pay are usually the ones with most money, thats how they get to keep it in the first place.

The hardest part for me is mornings like this morning. Cold, dark, miserable, the beds warm and you know you don't have to go. Takes a lot of will power to haul my arris off the bed and go to work.

                            All the very best Colin.
