  • Gas cookers.

I don't know whether anyone caught this on the news but there are some serious problems with free standing cookers manufactured by Beko.

They are free standing cookers with a seperate oven and grill and are badged Beko, Leisure, Flavel, Milano or Glen-Dimplex.

The problem comes if you operate the grill with the door closed, this will produce large quantities of carbon monoxide. Eight dead in the UK to date.

If you have one of the above cookers check the model on the cooker data plate and compare this to the list on line.

They are still 7000 cookers outstanding in the UK that have not had the free
    modification.

Yep the first alert came out sometime ago but a lot of people missed it. Gas Safe have just asked for more publicity.

Perfectly safe if you follow the instructions and use the grill with the door open, but and its a BIG BUT a lot of people in rented accom don't have instructions and those that have them sometimes don't read them.

Thanks Bren one day I will learn how to do that. But then again being idle and having peeps like you around I don't really have to worry to much.

Not heard this at all but wasn't it Beko who had some major problems with fridge / freezers a year or so ago? Might have misremembered as I didn't have one of the ones involved. Also, I've always grilled with the door open, thought that was normal practice so that you didn't melt the grill pan handle and could keep an eye on everything. Isn't this the case?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It was Beko Fridges that had problems, Alison.

Alison yes that is normal practice, but like you say if you close the door on your grill all that will happen is that you will melt the pan handle.

On the cookers above it would seal the compartment to the extent it deprives the grill burner of oxygen this cause's the production of carbon monoxide.

In the latest incident I believe the two young men were cooking a pie of some sort under the grill.
