  • Gardening indirectly saves MIL's life

My mom-in-law hurt herself( or so she thought) beginning of last week moving a paving slab in the garden. She's been pottering around a lot in it over the last few months. Anyhow's she was complaining she thought she pulled something moving the slab. by Thursday morning she was off to the doc's as was not getting any better.

Doc prodded around a bit and sends her straight off to have a scan. The scan shows a lump the size of a 2 litre coke bottle To cut a long story short, she had it removed on Tuesday.... it weighed 19lbs!double Unfortunately as it was difficult to remove, the doctors accidentally sliced right through her urinary tube....so she now has a stent in while it's healing, but now has to be extra careful not to pull on the stent by moving or doing anything strenuous or it's another major op!

The test results came back today and the cyst has encapsulated a cancerous tumour. They are confident that they got it alll as the cells in the cyst external to the tumour were all clear...... They say if she hadn't had the op when she did though she'd be in major trouble.

So if she hadn't been gardening, that thing might still be in her and dread to think about that.

So a word of warning not to just ignore things!

In an effort to cheer her up before the op.... I said to her to look at it as extreme dieting.... that was before we knew it weighed 19lbs! She sounds upbeat now so we're all grateful that she came through.... it's at times like this when it's hard being 6 000 miles away.... she's a lovely lady and exceptionally positive.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts... been a rough week especially for OH as she couldn't be with her.

My mum found out that she had a cyst the size of a rugby ball in her abdomen just after Christmas and she only went to the docs cos she had a problem with her leg. You'd think you'd realise about these things but sometimes they creep up on you. Bit of a worry but after a big op, everything has been given the all clear so all good. And she's lost a load of weight so is now wearing clothers that haven't fitted for years so double bonus!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                    thanks all
They're going into winter now so she'll have chance to heal before spring starts again in September - actually grateful as this means she won't be tempted to overdo things!

Good grief RT!!! That's got to be a bit of a miracle really - that something so horrible was in fact containing the cancer and preventing it from spreading... She must not have been meant to go anywhere just yet. Best wishes to her, I hope her recovery is smooth. And a virtual hug for your OH (you can give it a literal translation on my behalf ), she must be worried and frustrated.
