A few weeks ago, we had Appletreewick Fair, which affected the roads for miles around - not because of too many cars, but because of all the horse-drawn carts/caravans making their way there! I don't know a lot about it, but I think it's a Romany gathering. (Maf, where are you? D'you know more about it?)
It certainly makes travelling in a car hard work for days & days, before & after, with all the horse-drawn vehicles on the roads!

My son's work is based around Witney and he had to work this weekend so decided he would book into a B&B or hotel to save time (he lives in Swindon). Not a cat in hell's chance. All booked solid for miles around. Wish I'd finished turning my house into a B&B.

Hi seasprout! I made it home phew, but what made me mad was the fact that they had blocked my normal route of and made me JOIN all the show traffic!!!!!!!! oh boy was I angry. Still at least they had nice weather for the show!
All back to normal today, though there are many cars and caravans in the fields still!

Its a bit late now but always use the back roads when events like this are on. We visited friends in Bladen on Saturday and the noise from the show was amazing. Shotguns continuously more than one per second for the entire visit! Its a shame we didn't get chance to go but I unsderstood tickets were very pricey.

Only once every four years apparently so you've got a long rest until its back again. Also in the shows defense there have been yellow AA signs warning of disruption up for miles around for the past month...

They had blocked some of the back roads, that's what made me and the guys at work mad.
£25 per head!!!!!! to get in!!!!!!! 130 thousand+ people over weekend, charge the stall holders per plot......£££££££'s
well done Blenheim...laughing all the way to the bank!!!

Yes I agree about the signs, that's why we tried the back routes. One guy here. 15 min journey over two hours later still no go, he gave up at that point!
Another guy, with suitcase, saw his bus at one of the roundabouts on edge of city, bus did not move, he got coffee, drunk coffee. Bus still not moved- he walked all the way with suitcase from oxford to here!!! and beat the bus, he never did see the bus.
