  • Fuming - DVLA cock up!!!!

Well opened my car tax form in order to buy it online and the number plate on it is for my car when i first bought it in January, but I have a private number plate and all this was supposed to have been done by the DVLA in Borehamwood, in February!!!!!!

My tax disc in the car shows my private number and was issued by the DVLA, so now I am 2 days away from taxing my car and they say that no V5 had been issued with that number plate...........

Borehamwood DVLA have my old V5 and my transfer docs etc etc, and now i cant get hold of them until Monday and that leaves one day to get the car taxed!!!!!!!!!!

So now i dont know where i stand and i am fuming with them, i cant remember not receiving my new V5, but then i do have about 4 for motorbikes and they are all kept in the same place and the one for my car isnt there!!!!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! why cant people do their jobs correctly in the first place and then i wouldnt be worried and agitated all weekend!!!

If you ring up DVLA (I know, I know...) they should be able to point you in the direction of a regional centre where they can do all the admin for you on the spot.

Makes you laugh in this day and age, doesn't it?

      Hurrah for DVLA!!
We told them last July that we had exported the car to France and have it registered it here. We also applied for the excess tax to be refunded. They sent us a fine in December for not renewing the tax!!??
Needless to day we didn't pay (and neither have they)

i got up to go to work one morning and found my car clamped and it cost me £500 to get it released and that was due to a cock up by the DVLA for holding onto my paperwork that i needed to get my car taxed, as a result i couldnt get my car taxed and i couldnt even get half the money back as they stated if i had it taxed within 7 days as they didnt send it back to me in time!!!!Dont get me started.....

As I understand it- that if their records aren't up to date then you WILL be fined for having the vehicle on the road.
There was something about this on Radio 4 a few months ago. They said it was up to you to ensure it was covered- simple as that!

No idea what you should do though- maybe use the original numberplate for registering it - and then get them to change it when the new number is recognised??
My private number was covered in a couple of weeks when I registered mine- maybe they have a backlog???
          My sympathies to you though

great arent they!!!!! the thing is, they have all the paperwork for the private plate, and my V5 for the original reg plate etc etc, all i have is the tax disc from january in the private plate number, thats why i thought it was all ok!!!!

i have rang them, but they cant do anything until monday as that dept shuts at 4.30pm!!!!! why cant they work a full day like everyone else!!!!!!!!!

mad: - i am still mad about it, i have had the car 6 months, so may not have been covered for anything and its their fault!!!!

Sure you'll get it sorted. You might have to declare it 'Off-Road' at the last minute and shove it on the drive-way to avoid getting a fine.

Another dept but the same stupidity......
I recently recieved a bill from the child tax credit people for repayment after moving to France for (seriously) £0.00p
Although they have very kindly offered not to persue us for this amount as it is "a small amount".
                      Phew!

i recently got a fine, for not taxing my sons car which had been declared sorn for 2 years whilst he turned it into a super car, he sold it to one of his mates, who stripped it and scrapped it .... we informed them it had been scrapped ...... but they are still insisting we pay, cos they hadn't any record of us telling them either that it was still sorn, that it had been sold, or that it had been scrapped

Nothing to do with your complaint about the DVLA squashysu but before you phone them log onto SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers, type in DVLA and you will get their ordinary rate landline phone numbers which means you only pay normal charges instead of 10p or more per minute.
