Default Fruit/wine flies

Is anyone else having the same problem. Just got in after a chat with a friend and my bro. Poured a glass of wine. Logged on to the 'puter, took a sip, 4, FOUR flies had already committed hari kiri in me glass. Now sat here wiv another glass, a tea strainer and a coaster over current glass.

BŁoody cheek of it!!

Yes! Glad it's not just me - I've been doing a lot of preserving lately and there seems to be a plague worths in my kitchen despite cleaning up as I go along, I suspect it's the council provided scraps caddy! A male friend of mine who doesn't even use his kitchen also has an infestation. As to the wine, I'd grab the little blighters by the wings and tell them to spit it out

Yup, same problem!! Teastrainers are the ideal accessory. I've stopped keeping the scraps caddy in the kitchen, my peelings etc go straight into the bendy bucket on the patio. There do seem to be a lot of them about this year though.

Three words... Venus. Fly. Trap. Oh, and an exclamation mark too!

I paid a visit to my local garden center on a mission after no matter how much I coerced not only the wee fruit flies out of the kitchen and outside, but also the houseflies which just seemed to be keeping a reserve squadron ready to go as soon as one batch is cleared. Every night, I bring this tray of assorted carnivorous plants into the kitchen and by morning - an eerie silence (from a fly's point of view, anyway!)

Fruit flies ... there are no insects to speak of here in Singapore (I've seen one butterfly and one fly in 2 days ... no mozzies/bees/wasps/anything)

and yet - this morning there was a Fruit Fly Suicide in my wine glass. Perhaps it stowed away in my luggage?
