  • free open day at all four of the RHS gardens.

    Just heard this on Classicfm:

There will also be a series of Grow Your Own events happening across the RHS gardens in 2009. The first of these takes place on 7 March with a free open day at all four of the RHS gardens. This is the only day of the year when anyone can visit the RHS gardens for free and is a great opportunity to pick up inspiration and ideas to get started on growing your own. The first 2000 visitors to each garden will also receive a Grow Your Own starter pack.

Some of the Grapes are going to Wisley for this, see the sticky. If anyone else is interested, let me know.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
    Now a little Shrinking Violet.

Thanks for the heads up about this. I am probably heading to Wisely as well, but as I'll be dragging husband and child along with me, when we will get there is anyone's guess. I am aiming for Saturday morning however.

Yes I will be there I was a member, but I think the RHS has not done enough when it comes to grow your own, the magazine has nothing about veggies and they are moving the Veg patch elsewhere, I only hope they make sure it is given more space than at the moment and make sure the restaurant is using the produce!

Yes, March 7th we hope to go to Harlow Carr (which was established for the RHS by Geoffrey Smith wasn't it?) Is there any attempt by Grapes to meet up to say Hello? (they're expecting several thousand visitors and the site is 50+ acres... ) b.

These days are running Sat and Sun, but I think the free entry was only for Sat. It was VERY busy at Wisley, but I think we all enjoyed ourselves.

We went to Harlow Carr & I did spot a very pregnant young lady in a red knitted jacket on her way out & wondered if it was you Yo but didn't have the nerve to ask her.
I was a bit disappointed, got the free seeds & info. pack but it was heaving with people, had to park a long way away & the only thing I got to see was a guy showing how to graft fruit trees, he was quite interesting though, I didn't know you should put the scion part in the fridge so that it thinks it's winter & doesn't start growing at the same time as the rootstock pushing the 2 pieces apart, not that I'll be doing that anytime soon but it's good to know.

we got there for 9.30 am so it wasnt too busy, it was heaving in the car park when we left at about 12.30 though.
