  • Free Fractures at Tesco!

Yep! That's what I said.....Got mine last night.

....made OH take me to Tesco last night as I was in dire need of Ben & Jerry's.

We were just coming out and I walked on the pedestrian walkway behind a car that was reversed into the space but stationary. I had no idea the car was occupied, never looked, until it hit me.

The elderly lady who was driving wasn't aware she'd hit me either until someone waved frantically at her. Turns out she'd put the car, which she hadn't had for long, into the wrong gear and shot backwards instead of going forwards.

We took all the details and then toddled off to A&E. I've got an iliac wing fracture of my pelvis, but I'm walking wounded thankfully. Got some lovely bruises developing too....I'm sure Farrow & Ball make paints the same colours. The most pain comes from the palm of my left hand though - blimey that graze stings!

Moral of the story is that you are never, ever, that desperate for icecream (pregnant women excepted) and, if you have a new car, drive it round somewhere safe for practice.

This is not a free gift that I'd recommend though.....

      Ah...

...that might be the happy pills. Got some strong analgesics to take during the day and even stronger pills for nighttime.

That sounds very painful. Ive broke loads of bones at different times in the past but never my pelvis. Make sure your taking it easy. You might be 'walking wounded' but no one else needs to know.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Blimey, I'd have gone ape. I have a "thing" about old dears/dearies driving (after one ploughed into the back of me - with me doing 50.. no idea how fast he was going)... Thankfully it was just me in the car, rather than the wife/baby.

            Glad you're ok though!

What an example you are to most of us. You are a star lady. Take life's **** and get on with it. Hope you mend pretty damn quick and enjoy your Ben & Jerry's you deserve loads.

Actually - I'm thinking here that we should contact the marketing department of B&Js, they would pay good money/ice cream for this as material

Not being a hero, and I feel the same way about elderly driving, but I'm just a bit stiff and multicoloured. Life is going to be a bit slow for the next six weeks, but hell, I can cope with that.....not a lot going on.

I was very worried about the elderly lady though, she was shaking and very very pale. The Tesco assistant we left her with was getting a first aider with a view to calling an ambulance. OH phoned this morning and Tesco person said she'd been treated for shock but was ok otherwise. She might think about her safety to drive a bit now I guess, but I hope she won't be stranded at home. Difficult one, that.

On the really bad side - I'm off icecream. Now that IS tragic.

Look on the bright side. All the ice cream you can get with the compensation (hope she was insured).

On the serious side, do take things very steadily for a while. Delayed shock can be as nasty as initial symptoms.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
                            >
                            >If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

This is what worries me. The driver was 78, I'm much younger.

It's just occurred to me that neither me or OH know what became of last night's purchases....a family bag of Maltesers and a tub of B&J's Chunky Monkey. Or it might have been Caramel Chew Chew....
