    HUGE samples of this spotted yesterday, driving along. I yelled STOP THE TRUCK at poor OH, who promptly kacked his pants, thinking something was seriously wrong. Honestly, you'd think he'd be used to me after 4 years!

    Anyway, here it is. Hard to appreciate the size on these pics, but it's about 50cm in diameter. Certainly the largest I've ever seen in my life! It went all round one side of the trunk - a very old birch.

          Never heard it called the Dryad's saddle, Flum. Common name is tinder or 'hoof' fungus. I'm trying to learn the Latin names of funghi, though.

              Is that the one Ray Mears goes on about? We seem to get them around here as well...
