  • Flippin' Validation Codes...Grrrr!

You know when you're registering on a website, or some forums have them when you use their search function, you have to enter a random code which is in funny, wavy text against a textured background, something like here:

    Lost Password Form

Is it just me, or are they always impossible to read and enter correctly!

I've been trying to register with Pepipoo following other grapes' recommendations, but I simply cannot get in!

I've never had a problem with those codes Ollie and I think that one says F93808 - but see what others think.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

That one is different every time you go to the page, so I couldn't use 'F93808'.
Maybe it's just my crazy, crazy eyes

Do you have the same probs with the black and white ones Ollie? If not then your colour vision may be the issue.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

It can't possibly be, firstly we men don't have problems, and secondly I had it tested about 10 years ago!

I can't stand them. Ticketmaster is the worst offender. I've had to click on the Fook Nose button more than once!

I just keep hitting the reset button until one comes up that I can read.

I know it's no real help but they are known as CAPTCHAs which is a contrived acronym standing for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart".

                Maybe you're a computer?

No help, but a memorable factoid. Stored in databanks for future retrieval.

I hate those things, I end up refreshing the page for ages before I find a code I can read.

The point is that it's difficult to write code to recognise the letters and numbers in an image. Not sure why they make them hard for people to read though. A program to read it really wouldn't care either way.

I don't find them a problem but a friend of mine who is colour blind finds them hard so could be something to do with that - or he might just have bad eyesight!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I don't actually see the point in them cos if you get it right it lets you in so it might as well bypass the middle bit & let you in anyway..........Gee I've confused myself now.....

Totally with you. I regularly can't read them. Really don't see the point either.
