I don't expect many ladies to contribute to this thread but you never know....................I have recently taken up fishing again after a few years break & I know it's a fact that many anglers don't like to give their tactics away but seeing as we are all friends.......well..............have you any secrets you wish to share. I like to experiment & my first secret is the use of flavoured potato pellets made with 15mm copper pipe, I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago & have had some cracking bites on it but as yet have to land one.........The bonus is they stay on the hook or hair rig............over to you.

When we lived in the UK our neighbour was an avid fly fisher.

He called me over one day and asked me to handle all the feathers etc on the hooks.
He'd read somewhere that female hormones attracted the fish.
He'd asked me and not his wife because I hadn't gone through the menopause so my female pheronomes would be stronger!

( no he wasn't being 'odd'!)

    Did he catch anything?......
I waited in anticipation for the extra fish he said he'd give me as a Thankyou ....

    Nope.

    No harm in trying though!
( might have been the wrong time of the month ???...)

    Might be worth experimenting with?

      Hi Mal,

As you are using hair rigs. I assume you are fishing for carp?

I used to fish at Cefn Mably lakes years ago. It was good fun, but I gave it up to take up sea fishing.

Roath Park has some MASSIVE carp in it.

Funny you should mention flies Nic as I've just ordered a couple of dozen from China as the river I fish has a good head of Trout & Salmon.............nothing ventured nothing gained all for a pricey sum of £3........There are no flies on me.........................I can't imagine asking a lady to hold my flies though..............

Hi CG, I used to fish for Carp but got bored with it so I'm having a season on the river. Maybe next year I'll try stillwaters again. No, I'm not a lover of hair rigs as I can't see the piggin hole to put the stop in........................so it's straight on the hook for me.

My dad and uncles use to keep the maggots warm by keeping them in between their lips especially in winter. He also uses stale bread to see if the fish will bite. He says fresh bread sinks to quickly.
Fly fishing he always uses says see where the bugs are and use a small black fly.

My Dad used to take me freshwater fishing when I was little (so not very serious) but the best and cheapest bait everytime was the bundles of little red compost worms several times we upset real fishermen who caught nothing

Although I couldn't do it, it was common for them to be kept under the tongue.............the warmer they were, the livelier they became...........sorry ladies.

When Chubb fishing in the winter add Tumeric to your maggots, works great on the Thames, compost heap is also a great place for brandlings

I've got a couple of wormeries which are keeping me going at the moment. Need to get hold of a needle & syringe to inject air into them so they pop up off the bottom.............Sorry KoA if this offends you.

Sorry to go off subject but that just reminded me.

I was in a pet supply/ country store and a horsey lady went in and wanted some maggots for her chickens and to cut a long story short, the maggots had to be in a sealed tub with breathing holes due to animal welfare reasons.................the fact they were being feed to chickens minutes later was irrelevant

I find a 2oz slab of plastic explosive and a very large net work quite well

I haven't got any secrets though we went fishing all the time as kids - river fishing for trout with worms, sometimes maggots. It was a great time of my life. My brother went on to fly fishing and i got into making flys.
We went fishing for mackeral on hols and caught this
