The annual Quadrantid meteor shower peaks tonight (3rd Jan)but optimum veiwing is only from Eastern Europe, so we won't get anything like the best view from UK. The astral highlight of the weekend was the partially eclipsed 'blue moon' on NY Eve( I think it only happens about once every thousand years or so ), so if ya' missed it, ya' missed it
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

Dare I suggest RL, wrap stroppy granddaughter up warm, take outside and tell her she can't come in till the shooting star is seen! (Hide folks, police on their way!)
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Hi Headfry - just noticed your question here - the blue moon only happens rarely and refers to the second full moon in a month - we had one at the beginning of December and another one (the blue one - not literally) on New Year's Eve. Difference between lunar and the (Gregorian?) monthly calendar.

The clear night skies here are absolutely fabulous!!
With the full moon and snow/heavy frost over the past few days, it's been light enough to wander round outside with no lights at all.
Now that the moon is getting smaller, the stars are becoming really clear. The Milky Way is just like a speckled cloud..wonderful!
Anyone know which planet it is near the moon?

Thanks jacob. Hope this snow doesn't stay, otherwise I'll have to postpone my visit. Will be stopping at Coughton Lodge, directly opposite Coughton Court. Have been there before. Lovely!
