Good news indeed, however I was not aware that the Varoa mite was alone in being responsible for bee decline and colony collapse. Over the past decade mite infestations have become more manageable with the use of modified hives resulting in less need for chemical control.
I fear a new strain of bees with mite resistance is only a small part of the whole solution, nevertheless it is hopefully a step in the right direction.Comment

Surely grooming the bees is a learned habit, not a genetic mutation?
I would have thought that they only do it due to a pioneer in the colony, not a genetic mutation?Comment

Just put 'Apiguard' on for my girls..... hope it helps!
It is meant to help control the Varoa mite.
You can 'dust' the bees with icing sugar - this makes them groom and helps remove the mites - it does not harm the girliesComment
