  • A Farmers Life for Me

As you might have noticed I watched a bit of telly last night.

Did anyone else see this, The two women that got booted out did not surprise me one bit. They argued all the time, you would think they were married not sisters!!!!!

I thought the couple who wanted to have serviced plots should have gone too. If you are going to go into farming and you only have 1/2 acre, why on earth would you turn over some of that to allotments?

If you gave me 1/2 acre, I would be planning what I would do with it not what I could let someone else do with it. Plain lazy if you ask me.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Totally agree Mikeywills. I thought it was great and envy the people that get the farm for the year, however I would like to know what on earth the winners do after that year ??

I wondered the same, do they have to give it all back after a year?

I think if I won, I would rather have the financial support to start my own farm, rather than the land to use on someone elses.

On this subject, I found it rather moving when the older chap became emotional because his wife was plowing so well.

I thought about it and I think my husband would be the same, however he would be crying becuse I would be doing a better job that him

              ha ha ha!!!

Love it. OH would have to delegate the plowing to me, while she supervised and cast a critical eye over my poor showing.

I found myself tickled pink while he cried over his wife's plowing. It was very amusing.......I mean moving.

i thought i would hate this programme cos i normally do hate reality tv stuff - being a really poncy git - y'know a bit prechuss......
BUT i liked it and thought the right people went altho i think the allotment people were total twats too...what has happened to my language tonight?
you'd think i woz from sarf eest london......
however.. i was cheering for the geordies - i loved them doing all that reclaiming ...thought they were lovely.
and then i went and dreamt about being a secret millionaire and being able to give someone a farm......i would love to run a farm but OH says he would absolutely hate it so.......but do they really only get it for a year? What is the point? Cos its impossible to get set up in farming without loadsa money...places like somerset council are selling off their farms which people could rent ..........
here you see small farms going to rack and ruin ....i reckon if you really wanted to farm you would have to come to europe...........

According to the Radio Times, the winners have the land rent free for a year, after which they have to 'make it pay'.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Anyone know what they get if they win, ie. how much land and will there be a house or do they live in the caravan and they all seemed to be driving about in new landrovers.
Me and OH found it painful to watch. They have absolutely no idea.

But we'll watch again next week

                          tues, BBC2 8pm.

I'd imagine the 1st episode will be on BBC iplayer.

I found it interesting to watch, as i'd love to have a smallholding, so seeing how they all started was fascinating. Can't understand why the sisters wanted to do this as they never seemed to get on from the beginning. I want to know what happens to their livestock now...think they got sheep.....do they just go back from whence they came?!.

Caught up on this last night.

I didn't understand the service allotment thing either. Do they mean private pick your own??

I think I've have split the plot in to two; fruit and goats, and made fancy ice cream.

That is a lovely spot. I think I know roughly where it is. I've been there a few times and it is really nice.

I only caught the last five minutes of the programme but what struck me as ironic is that young Mr Docherty is seen to have so much farming experience that he is deemed suitable to judge others.
