Default Excited about hard work...

It's silly really, we've got 2/3 weeks of real hard graft coming up to get the garden into something resembling an allotment.

We have to:
Cut the turf away (hiring a turf cutter)
Rotavate the whole area (borrowing a rotavator)
Mark out and define beds (using reclaimed bricks)
Re-site compost bins and manure pile
Fence area off from the dog(!)
Actually plant all my seedlings that are in the greenhouse and my onions, potatoes, carrot seeds etc.

Turf cutter is coming this weekend. The guy at the hire shop says its a quick job actually stripping the turf, its the rolling it up and getting it out of the way that's the hard work!

Even though I know we've got loads of work to do, I'm actually quite excited about it!!

This is the field we're transforming...

The half on the picture will be a chicken area, and the allotment space, and the rest of the field (behind the picture taker) is being re-seeded and absorbed in our house's garden (although I'll probably eventually steal it for allotment space anyway!)

Oh you lucky thing, OWG. What a potential paradise. If it were ours, however, my OH would have designs on part of it for a wild flower meadow. He's a divil for 'em!

Luckily, the field behind us is unused (but we can't buy it! Boo!) and have lovely flowers etc in it.

I'm planning some lovely big beds of lavender etc in the new "garden" section of the field, to attract insects and such like.

The field was one of the reasons we bought the house!

what a lovely prospect OWG,
It's nearly as good as ours - we have an industrial estate behind the trees at the end of our yard!
Hope all grows well for you.

You lucky thing! Good luck with the work, at least you don't have to undo others 'mistakes'

Enjoy, but take care of you back!

Terry

Either sell your turf or compost it. How lovely to have such a big space to do what you want with. It will be hard work, but worth it. Have you made a detailed plan, or are you just going to see what evolves?

We've got a basic plan which includes 4 beds, a strawberry bed and a misc fruit area. I'd also like a herb bed (but I could fit that in the main garden)

I've got to do some measuring and marking out on Friday and I'll probably spend Easter rotavating and making the beds!

Eventually we're getting a new greenhouse, as the one we have is very rotten and falling apart but it'll be a while before we can afford that!
