Ewwww! How can I clean this?

    Ewwww! How can I clean this?

    Sigh! My autistic son has squashed what looks to be a whole packet of chocolate biscuits down the top of a radiator. I've fished out/poked through what I can but there's loads of gunk trapped in the middle flutely bits (can't think of the proper name, hope you know what I mean). It's made even more awkward by the fact that the window ledge overhangs the top slightly, so it's hard to get to.

    I'm wondering if a steam cleaner would work? Other than that, all I can think of is a toothbrush and a bowl of hot water

    Any thoughts?

      Have you got a bottle brush and a wire coathanger? Have a blue peter moment to make the bottle brush long enough to get down there, with newspaper spread on the floor to catch any debris.

        Place a bowl underneath and pour hot water through? Use a straightened coat hanger for the biggest blockages.

          I think the only way you'll clean it properly is to disconnect the radiator and pressure wash it. Most satisfying, if you can be bothered!

          Other than that, how long is your tongue??

            I'd avoid putting anything hot on it as this will just melt the chocolate. At least at this time of year you have the advantage that the radiator wasn't on, would be must worse if it had been. Would agree with the brushing options but would try and keep it all as cool and dry as possible until at least majority of it has been removed.

              That's what I'm getting at. Heat and water will dilute it surely and it'll simply run down the radiator and into the bowl (with enough water).

                Seahirse, it should be fairly easy to 'unhinge' the radiator so that it can still be connected (i.e not need to drain etc) and then just rest the top bit on the floor. That's what we do every time we've decorated a to get the wallpapering done properly

                Other that that I'd agree with a coat hanger and maybe some old socks or a dish cloth secured over the top?

                Not sure either HW about the hot water.. it's melt, but dribble down the radiator, and when the water cools part way down the radiator, it might reset as a dribble mark, lol. Also, what about the wall paper behind the rad?

                  If the water was hot enough and you did it enough times, I would go with the water treatment...it's going to be yukky whatever the method.

                  Or, to mop up alot of it, can you get any old material down there? - stuff it as much as you can and turn the rads on. Once it's melted it will be absorbed into the material and you might well get a majority of it out. Then rinse with the hot water whilst it is till hot.

                    What a job Seahorse. Ideally unhinge the radiator from the wall and get at it that way.
                    Or get a cane and all your old rags. Wrap a rag round the cane and just keep getting in there.
                    I was once faced with a whole pot of porridge down the back of a radiator - it was a work thing ! Time and patience cleaned it.

                      I would try a bottle brush and hot soapy water. Put thick dust sheets under the radiator to catch the mess.
                      Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it.
