but if it's discontinued, why would they need a display model? If they're getting more in stock, it ain't discontinued, surely?

I went to the local Tesco's petrol station and asked if I could have some 40p per litre fuel like they had in Cambridgeshire, they were not too helpful they said no

a few months ago,we went to get one of those glass tv stands,they were advertised,just to be told,sorry but we not got them,so why advertise in the first place,did'nt even say if another store had them,so where is the logic in the thinking.

it doe's not work with me,i only buy what i want from them,like ginger beer,and own make,light mayo,as it not vinigerie,unlike h.....s,i do not like it,

Not about the purchase of an item but about paying a bill.

I hold 3 credit cards and one was given its termination order unless I use it by a certain date - so I did.

I phoned up to pay when the bill came in and they refused to take my money over the phone - even though it is a card issued by my own bank!

After lengthy discussions as to reasons why on earth they didn't want my money 'now' I realised that this is the very reason I have not used the card for so long. It is also likely to be a freezing cold day in hell before I do so again. I can pay over the phone with the other 2 with no problem - at the moment!

There are also other organisations which are making it more difficult to pay by certain methods - the steer is clearly to get as many peeps as possible onto direct debit - but I do not like companies being able to dip into my account at will. I have a limited and irregualr income so you can imagine the bank charges I might incur.

There are definite moves to undermine the value Post Office for instance you can no longer pay for your TV licence there, Brighton and Hove Council have stopped you being able to pay Council Tax at your bank and so it goes on.

If I had a discontinued model in my window which a punter might be happy to purchase as shop-soiled I'd be grabbing the cash out of their hands with relish as quick as I could!

Any time I have any choice to avoid them (or the other big chain supermarkets for that matter) I will do so.
So "not Tesco".

I don't think much more of the chains like Comet either, but at least they aren't Tesco.

About 25 years ago I went to buy a CD player I was told I would have to wait till Wednesday(this was Saturday)I showed the man in the shop �300 cash (cost of CD player) He made a phone call.........................when he came back he told me they would deliver & install it that afternoon.

PS that CD player is still going strong.

Not quite a daft as your store(y) but annoying none the less.

I've looked high and low for a cheap(ish) cooker for the new house (still not materialised) and found a brilliant deal (190�) on the tesco-online doodah but it was out of stock.

Signed up for the 'back in stock' email.

Got the back in stock notification 2 weeks later - was quite impressed by the service

Cooker is now �320

I DONT THINK SO Mr Tesco.

Very good points! If you dont have a mobile and computer these days, and in some cases, as you say, dont pay on line, you dont get anywhere.

Me and OH will be looking at white goods in T***o tonight, so this is a timely reminder of 'you get what you pay for', thanks!

There is a Domestic Appliance store in Dorking, with a sign that reads, "Would you buy fruit and veg from us? Then why buy your washing machine from a supermarket?" A bit harsh, but they DO have a point!

We'll still have a look, though...

It's always worth looking for a discount store in your area. We have Sparkworld here which sell brand new goods, all guaranteed and everything but have a dink or a scratch on the outside. These can be so much cheaper than perfect models so if you're not fussy these are the places to look.

I bought new undercounter fridge and freezer units a couple of months ago from Argos direct.
Once delivered, I unpacked the freezer to discover it had a large, iron bar shaped, dent in the front side. I immediately rang them to request a replacement. The girl on the phone offered me �20 off instead of a replacement, which I'd have happily accepted if it wasn't so obvious and so large.
Having got off the phone I unpacked the fridge unit to discover I'd got a fridge with a freezerr compartment in it...no point as I had a completely separate freezer unit. So I rang back up and asked to exchange that for the correct model.
So it was another 10 days before I actually got what I wanted, but they're both very good.

For future reference, Argos class a "Fridge Freezer" as a tall unit with a fridge door and freezer door on the front, a "Fridge" as a unit that includes a freezer compartment inside the main door, and a "Larder" as a fridge with no freezer!
It took this error to learn this, and I expect I'm not the only one to do so.
