Wrap a strip of kitchen paper round the egg before putting it in the cup - my mum used to do that for us when I was little and the only "egg cups" we had were tiny tea cups

When I was silversmithing, before we moved here a friend asked me to make her a set of four bantam egg cups - we moved before I had a chance to tell her how much it would have cost........

Maybe you could use something like little liquer glasses. They would be less expensive than those egg cups and you can get some lovely ones.

If I have an odd boiled egg at the lottie I just take the top off my small Nescafe coffee jar and use the jar!

You can get some air dry clay from a craft shop, the sort of thing that is really bright colours, people use it to make buttons/small models, like snadger suggested making your own, only won't go stickly like plasticine would.

fimo, is great, and comes in loads of colours ...... like plasticine but goes hard, i think you do it in the oven??

Fimo is great stuff - that came to mind when I saw this thread. However, when wrapping a tiny little china tea set for next door's littlest girl, I thought the little tea cups might be perfect! And look sooo cute! You can put the cups on the lickle saucer and pop the salt in the matching sugar bowl...
