No, and there's not much left after you've jumped up and down on them in revenge for them eating your precious crops.

Not personally but I know people who do!!

Basically they pick garden snails and then 'purge' them for at least a week to get rid of any nasties! They are put into upturned terracotta pots and fed bread, lettuce etc.

After that they are then ready to prepare for eating. The people I know who eat them, add them to a garlicky tomato sauce after boiling them for a bit!

Not something I really fancy though!!

That’s similar to what I read Emilymup,

I’ve eaten snails in France and eat whelks cockles etc and thought, there isn’t a lot of difference really?
          Cheers

This question came up before, Broadway, and you might want to see the link to one of the old threads - there were several.

I seem to remember that one of the ways of purging the snails before cooking was to feed them a diet of carrots. That way you could see what was coming out the other end before cooking.

The great big snails with brown shells were brought here by the Romans as a food source and appear in areas which were close to Roman settlements - or so the story goes.

Anyway, if you decide to eat, enjoy.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
              Yummy scrummy.
Basically pretty much any sort of garden snail can be eaten, as described above, you simply collect them, purge them and eat them. I purge them with lettuce leaves but no reason why carrots cant be used as Alice says.
              Enjoy.

I love snails when I'm in France. Can't say I've considered eating garden ones though.

I have tried eating garden snails. I kept them(large ones) in a tub on bran and carrot shavings(with a shallow dish of water) for, I think, three days. Then I dropped them into fast boiling water for a couple of minutes, "winkled" them out and cooked them in butter and added a little garlic puree.
Would I eat them again? Yes, if I were starving or desperate for protein. Otherwise they will be squashed and given to the hens!!

I caught about 10, put them in a bowl with some lettuce for a few weeks, then cooked them, mixed some garlic butter, pulled them out of their shells...then threw them away!

I just couldn't bring myself to eat them, they looked so unappetising!

I've tried them in France and thought they tasted pretty good though.

Nope! Never had the urge. There are far too many other, less disgusting-looking, things to cook in Butter and Garlic, to even contemplate Snails.

Besides, my Chooks like fighting over them far too much for me to spoil their enjoyment!
