I sometimes wonder if I must live under a stone at the bottom of the garden

I've never heard of this before- until I wondered why Google had gone all 'rural ' for the day!

    Here's it's history...

Earth Day 2008: History of Earth Day

    ...but I understand it's a worldwide thing.

Is anyone involved in joining in?????

I heard about it just the other day. It's not been particularly heavily promoted...

Hadn't caught on. Can't see any Earth Day cards or gifts or special promotions anywhere.

What would you buy for the planet on Earth Day, though?

I'm nipping into the garden centre later on today- I might buy a packet of wildflower seeds and sprinkle them somewhere.

          At least it's something!

Nope, that's how I heard about it too Nicos... I opened up Google this morning and commented on how pretty it was and it was only because the guy sitting next to me told me why it was themed like that

              Earth Day

The company I work for is running a variety of events to celebrate Earth Week from 9th June, run by the Environment group.
It includes encouraging people to car share, cycle, switch off PC's etc at the end of the day and a photo competition.

It is seen as an important part of demonstrating the companies committment to the environment both locally and globally. It's sponsored by the UN.

Although if they hadn't mentioned it I would be none the wiser!

Yahoo have also got a green theme on their front page!

Tomorow expect loads of red roses for St George's Day - should I post my address now for all those luverly bunches of a dozen red ones?!

May I wish all you all a happy day tomorrow and lets see the English celebrate their National Saint's Day with pride.

I would have never known it was earth day if it wasnt for your post Nicos. It really hasnt been advertised or talked about in the media. What a lost opportunity for people to learn about environmental issues and how they can tackle them. There should be events and things going on all round the country.
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and good with ketchup!

I agree- a totally wasted opportunity

Something as simple as not handing out plastic bags for the day in supermarkets would be a start! 'bring your own bags day'

And what about schools??? How easy would that be- and getting the rest of the family involved in a very simple task .
