As ever, when asked this type of thing my mind goes blank (although the red wine probably has something to do with it ), but one of my all time favourite films is Amélie. I'll think of some more and get back on this one, and as I'm always on the lookout for good suggestions, will follow this with interest! We're currently on a Lovefilm 'holiday' as we're stuck for ideas!

I look forward to the replies SBP.
I've been with Lovefilm for a while (before that they were Amazon).
Sometimes I'm stuck to know what to request.
I enjoyed American Beauty, Brokeback Mountain and Notes on a Scandal.
All have underlying sexual themes - but not explicit sex.

The service from Lovefilm is excellent and they sent me 2 gift cards valued at £35 each to give to friends so they can get 2 months unlimited DVD rentals.
          That should make me popular.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Would agree with both Hancock & Mama Mia and would add Mummy:Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the latest Indiana Jones movie and most of all Dark Knight, if Heath Ledger doesn't get a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker then there is no justice.

Just watched mummy 3 with the brats, now watching scorpion king 2 ( don't bother, they like it, its rubbish)

must admit though mine aren't 'loaners'

Dark knight rocks, elizabeth:the golden age for history fanatics, marie antionette for fantasists.

                  casino Royale is awesome.

Golden compass for the whole family. cant wait for the second part, only time a film has been better than the book for me.

Try the Kite Runner or Enduring Love (Starring Daniel Craig) no not soppy lovey dovey - it is from Ian Mc Ewans book of the same title after a hot air balloon accident people are left to question why did they not do more to help ... very gripping and well acted film that stays close to the book. The Kite runner is about the life of two boys growing up in the changing world of Afghanistan the book won the Booker Prize.

We saw Mamma Mia last night (great fun)
and Dark Knight before that (disappointing, too long, but Heath Ledger's Joker is the new standard)

on the subject of films, i LOVE afternoon matinees , mainly cos my late dad used to moan like hell when me and mum watched em, especially if they were musicals

it was however a mistake to start watching steel magnolias this afternoon, 20 minutes in and i have tears streaming down my face again

Yep thats another one, i do love a good cry though, just not whilst i am trying to cook dinner!

I have only ever been able to watch 'schindlers list' all the way through once, although, i still think it should be required watching at school when kids are old enough to understand whats its about. Brilliant film, just breaks my heart cos i know whats coming, that and 'sophies choice'
