  • drying bean advice please!!!

Ok- so I've taken the beans out of their pods- and now I'm wondering if I'm messed up????
You see they were climbing purple beans- the beans I planted out were also purple.
Well...some of the pod were dry- and some weren't , so the dry pods had purple beans inside- and the half dry ones beans were still green.
I thought as they dried theyd go purple- but they've not changed colour yet- and that's 4 days later and they've started to go harder.

You can probably guess I've never done this before...will they still be OK? ...and does it matter if they don't go purple????Did I remove them from their pods too soon????

Yes, they have been removed too soon if you want to use them for seed; but if it is for food they will just dry out and will puff back up again when you soak them.

use the purple ones for next year's seed.

Leave them in the pods for seed, until the pod is crispy and it rattles. Generally you have to bring it indoors on a sheet of newspaper to get the final crispiness.

Glad I read this - never seed saved beans before and now I know a little more. Keep them in the pod till dry, just in time as will be starting my seed saving in the next few days.
