  • dreich

in my 30 odd years living in africa dreich was just a quaint old scots word distant in my memory , never dragged out and used.

but as I sit here this morning in this scottish autumn dreich is the only word that comes to mind.
today the world is dull drab grey, that odd scottish mixture of heavy mist and low cloud. I know the sun is up now because the top bit of the grey is slightly lighter than the rest. visibilty is maybe a hundred yards, the forest I know is there is just a dark blob,
dark and damp, I almost expect the slugs to come by on their bicycles ,
dreich a simple word but so intensely descriptive, evocative.

Dreich - Good word, isn't it? (for Miranda fans )

Was the same here first thing but has lifted a bit now, I don't like warm and humid, but I'm guessing you haven't got the warmth with it?

It's stunning here today. One of the best days of the year!
I'm off back outside to make the most of it. ( no coat need either! )

Dreich is such a descriptive word it conjures up exactly what you want to convey, but Birdie Wife that word takes me back a lot of years since I heard that, and of course used in the presence of a parent it led to a thick ear
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
